I've been buying batteries from one of these outlets for years now without really noticing anything untoward. I wanted to keep an eye on my electricity consumption so bought an energy monitor from eBay. Got a brand new British Gas model for £15.
There were no batteries included because of the postal restrictions so I went and bought some C Cell batteries for the transmitter. Been trying for 2 days to pair the transmitter and receiver without success.

The buyer said he'd never used it so couldn't help and would refund my money. I decided to measure the voltage of these new batteries and found one that was only outputting 0.6v!!!
Replaced it with another and they paired almost instantly. The old saying rings true, "you only get what you pay for". :)
