No Standard Pic SmartCard found .... do what

Hi, all suggestions welcome, however as pointed out I have tried a blank goldie and one that I had previous and able to use for PPV etc (don't know what was used to program it as purchased it) and both these goldies give exactly the same error.

In fact tried 5 new goldies (purchased with Elvis) and all are exactly the same so including the one that I had previously then that makes 6 and I cannot see all 6 being faulty (the odds would be way way too high).

Have used MP6 and MP7 (sent via e-mail from davidh) and both give exactly the same errors and problems.

Now unless the programmer itself is at fault for not being able to do the autoupdate (or even if I select the card maually from the list when selecting new project) then I do not know what else to try except buying a new hard drive, installing Win98 on it and seeing what happens then as it has been reported that office xp seems to cause probs ... I don't know, just something I have read but seems a bit too extreme to take it just to find out if it will work.

I am in very, very desperate need for help here.

Is there anyone out there that can tell me if the Elvis is capable of actually reading and writing using MKF but not able to do anything when using MP6/7 ???????????

Is there any other software apart from MP6/7 I can try that can program goldies ?

This is one sad and very disillusioned newbie who will be joining Herberyt Lom in the nuthouse (to jog memories he was in a padded cell after Inspector Clueso was finished) <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0"> <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

i have had this problem with a couple of new cards so i for some reason i aded a new project on mp6 chose art19 "single wafer" and programed it with the kevlar pic then when it finished did an auto detect it found the card with eeprom then programed as normal with both files

Do you have a m8 or access to another computer with win 98 or me if so you could try hooking elvis on to that and giving it a go. I use me and elvis and have no problems <br />Don't give up m8 you might get this solved before it\/ d1g1tal go down the tubes...<br />Good luck

Tried the Art 19 idea .... no luck there at all.

As for the win98, I will try that although I did try booting into Dos (created a Dos boot disk) and running MP6 (DosProg.exe) from within Dos but still got an error message (stated in previous posting above somewhere) so if didn't work in Dos then is it likely to work in 98 ??

Aaaaarrrrgggghhhhh .... it's doing me in

Further Update:

Unistalled MP6 and downloaded a previous version (still MP6, just a little earlier).

This had a few diffrent files in and tried this in Windows, no different.

Transferred the dos files to boot disk and booted up with that to a Dos prompt.

THan run DosProg.exe andselected AutoDetect and still exactly same error as before ('Programming address 0h, Corrupt data=3FFFH, Expected Data=1683h')

Tried doing manuallly and so selected hex files to prog with (omega190) and it programmed the first set of hex number and when I selected the eeprom hex it started to program but then came up with the above mentioned error ('Programming address 0h, Corrupt data=3FFFH, Expected Data=1683h')

This seems to be something to do with the eeprom then.

I am still none the wiser but perhaps one or more of you experienced people out there might know what this could mean.

Please, somebody tell me what it can all mean.

Thanks

I think you have a dodgy elvis m8 youve tried everything else Still think it is worth hooking on to another pc and trying tho just in case you have a com port problem. Or try another serial lead.

Interesting thought about the com port although as stated have run MKF and done a mosc so think that would eliminate the com port.

See if anyone else has any suggestions before I go and purchase another hard drive just to test out if it will work on Win98.

try this, 1. Click on "New Project" <br />2. Double Click "1 Pic (D7,C3)RB7" - It's the one above "Gold, <br />Platinum, Galaxy" etc. <br />3. Put your PIC File in and program card with this only. <br />4. Now Go back and Re-Program card in the usual way with both <br />PIC & EEprom and it should work ok.

this program is surposed to fix problems with me and xp i have not had to use it myself as i have 98se but its worth a bash to see if it helps not quite sure exactly what it does Multiprog Version 0.5 on the downloads of <a href="http://www.adteknik.se/english/program.html" target="_blank">http://www.adteknik.se/english/program.html</a> .

SmartAlec, tried that ... still get same error message as above (corrupted data etc, only difference is different expected date)

Damage, try everything possible with that prog (except Phoenix as not implemented) but it switches power to the Elvis but when you try to write to the card it comes backafter a few seconds with message 'Programmer not found' ... yet it found it to switch power to it.

I am well stuped now, tried all manner of things all that is left is Win98 but am reluctant to purchase a hard drive and then find out not XP causing problem ...

How can I be the only one having this sort of problem ???

Supposed to just connect up and program and supposedly job done (or that is how I have been reading these posts.

it seems to me m8 that its most likely to come down to xp assumeing that the elvis is operating correctly do you have any access to a p.c with windows 95 or 98 to try it on ?? on the adtecnik site they do mention the power interface which like you says could cause you p.c to crash there is some data on xp power interface here <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q314088" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q314088</a> but i think all that you have tryed should have had some results by now.. put a new topic up xp with elvis to find out if anyone on the forum is useing xp with elvis as they may have had a simular problem ...

I would still be puzzled how XP can cause probs if I have tried just being at a dos prompt with a dos only boot disk (no XP or anything ... just plain old dos prompt)

Looks like I will have to try another hard drive.

As for XP and Elvis, I do know there are others (davidh for one) I believe he is is using XP with Elvis (I couldn't be the only one can I .. although I did read somewhere that Office XP seems to cause the probs and not XP itself)

Anyway, am left with no other option except try win98, if that fails then I give up, everything has been tried as far as I can see

just a thought m8 as u say i am running xp with office xp but mine is ovelayed 98>2000>xp<br />still 32bit may be that is the prob?

Right, have now tried in Win98 and still exactly the same problems and error messages as from the beginning

Also, once again booted from floppy disk and still same.

It appears to program the first part if I select the card manually but will not program the 2nd part (is it the EEProm ?) as I get the error messages at that point (gets as far as 0104h ... if this means anything then please get back to me asap ... I am now as bald as the image under my name on the left of my messages)

I now need some very good ideas as cannot see what else to try

Please before any further suggestion, lease make sure they have not already been suggested and already tried and answered.

right m8 just checked out what damage said earlyer on u try it program with out a card in the programmer should get <br />'Programming address 0h, Corrupt data=3FFFH, Expected Data=1683h' if so with card in programmer u get the same compair the gold and osc together for the placement of the chip if slightly out of alignment this is ur problemor if not check the pins on the elvis

<br />hope this sorts it out <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

Ah ha, have you found the answer ...

Just measured the distance from left hand side of card to the gold chip on the osc and it is exactly 1 inch but when measuring the goldie it is 1/8 inch less

However, I have a goldie programmed by soemone else before I had an Elvis and this measures same as blank goldies, but I can read this goldie so is it possible to read the goldie and yet it will not autodetect.

Hopefully you have found the answeer now all I need is a solution (if there is one) as can't seem to move the card in the slot, so is there a solution as my original goldie (gives me ppv) works but not a blank ?

Oh this is so confusing ... is it advisable to trim off the 1/8 inch, I doubt it as it would make it too narrow wouldn't it ?

Hopefully, now this has been found out there is a solution ?

Thanks

just checked mine is a slight diff between osc and gold card what u will have to check is the conntacts where they touch the chip? <img src="wink.gif" border="0"> :)

Davidh, see you altered your message as you suggested to try and trim goldie as nothing to lose ... which I did but nothing different at all

How do you check the contacts as the goldie goes into a little sort of box so how can you see.

But we still come back to the fact of I have a goldie (programmed a while back before I got my own programmer) which can be read via MKF but cannot AutoDetect with MP6 or MP7 ... why would this be.

Can there be a problem with Elvis or the software ... I think I am going to give up, how can I get all this problem ???
