Bookmakers Paddy Power shelved a plan to offer odds over which Liverpool star would next be burgled after heavy criticism from Anfield.
Over a dozen Liverpool and Everton stars have been robbed while in action for their clubs in what are believed to be targeted crimes.
Paddy Power had started taking bets on who was next, with Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard (pictured) and Fernando Torres all 12/1 favourites.
But the Liverpool Echo reported that the plan was abandoned after Liverpool FC complained, while fans are rumoured to have reported it to police.
"It was completely tasteless and disgraceful to take bets like this," a spokesman from Anfield said. "The club had absolutely no knowledge of it and as soon as it was brought to our attention we made contact with Paddy Power and insisted the market was closed and removed from the website.
"By coincidence our corporate agreement with Paddy Power comes to an end tomorrow."
Dirk Kuyt, Robbie Keane, Daniel Agger, Peter Crouch and Jose Reina have all been burgled while away.
The most high-profile incident came when captain Gerrard's wife Alex Curran was confronted by four masked men in December 2007 while he was in Marseille for a Champions League match.
