enter the router settings m8 using the router http settings then enter your user name etc

can you access your router by putting in this..http://192.168.0.1

and if so go to > setup wizard on the top left, it will auto-detect your settings then all you do is put your name and password to connect to your ISP.

hope this helps

have the same prob with my Netgear Wireless for ADSL. One minute two PC's one with Netgear Wireless Card one with Ethernet lead also a Laptop Centrino on wireless and all that buis and a XBOX 360.One minute all fine all running at same time next can't find the server on the two wireless machines no connection to net via IE but yet there is the signal running quite happily with an excellent reading any ideas?

Hi mate, I have set up a wireless router up on a blueyonder broadband connection. What operating system are you using and what is the make and model of your wireless router? I had a few teething problems setting my router up as they can be quite tricky, but hopefully I can help you out.

how is the primary computer connecting to the router? are you using ethernet? is your ethernet addapter picking up an IP address from your router? to try this do the following:-

plug in your ethernet lead to the computer and router
turn on your router
wait approx 1 minute and click start, run
type cmd
then press enter
now type ipconfig
then enter
you should see a local ip address something like 192.168.1.2
within the ip address you will have a gateway, this is the ip address of your router.
once you know the ip address of your router you can then open up internet explorer and type http://what_ever_the_ip_is

hope this helps

failing that give us as much info as possible, what model is the router, how are you connecting to the router ect forgert the laptop bit for now do that once your primary computer is working off the new router

Capdan

Hi Capdan,it is a NETGEAR DG834GT, will give your info a go and will report back with developments but am gonna have to wait till my lot let me have a go.

are you trying to connect using the laptop wireless???? first connection needs to be setup using the lead to your pc....so if your trying to set it up via wireless you wont get it going,,,use the lead for setting up...then go to the http login and run setup wizard. then you can connect to use wireless.

Does your laptop find the wireless network?

If your connected already open a command prompt and type "ping {ip address of router}" without the brackets and quotes and put in the ip of your router.
Did you get a reply?

If not change the tcp/ip setting to automatic detection (Obtain IP Address Automatically and Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically). Providing that dhcp is set on the router your laptop should find the router providing its broadcasting its SSID. Connect to the network

Once your connected go to http://THE IP ADDRESS STATED IN THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL

If none of this works there should be a method to restore the router to the factory default. Do this and then try the above steps again.

If all else fails then you can attach the laptop directly to the router using a straight through ethernet cable and try the above instructions again. It is not neccessary to initially set up the router with a cable. Wireless should work fine

hi have come accross this before the wireless will only work with the dongle they supplyed with router, they have lock it up just to work on they stuff. there is a way round this ring netgear and tell them your routeris playing up they changed my m8's for him.

I seriously doubt that the only dongle that will work with the router is the one supplied.
They would have to configure the router to work with only specific MAC addresses which is never going to happen

finally got my wireless /phone conflict sorted, all boiled down to a dodgy ext you by from shops. So thought bugger it ran a totally new extension and hey presto the worlds my lobster.
