need help with a code for the radio in my old scenic

as title states,the battery terminal was snapped on my old scenic and i replaced it,the dealer even gave me a code for the radio but i cant get it to work,all he asked was for the reg of the car,not any of the serial numbers etc on the radio,has he gave me a bad code? i tried inputting it with the steering control as advised,pressing bottom button,then scrolling wheel to the correct numbers,then holding bottom button,but it just beeps and goes back to CODE?

am i doing something wrong?

help please,driving is really boring now with no tuneage,lol

take radio out on the side will be a precode its 4 digits (letters or numbers or both) in a little box post it and ill give you the code
