Xbox 360 warranties have been altered to include the common E74 error.

The standard warranty to the machine was extended to three years in 2007 for the so-called 'red ring of death’ breakdown which plagued many console owners.

Microsoft has now included the “associated” E74 error to its three year warranty, a spokesperson told MCV.

“While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays E74 on their screen.

“After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with the three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007.”

The latest 360 consoles with flash memory include Jasper hardware, which consumes less power and has reduced the chance of such errors occuring.

Microsoft pledges to fix Xbox 360 error

Microsoft has pledged to extend warranty cover to address an Xbox 360 fault known as the E74 error message.

Back in July 2007, the firm introduced an extended three-year warranty to cover a system error commonly referred to as the red ring of death (RRoD).

Instead of three red lights appearing around the consoles' on button as in RRoD, cases of E74 involve an error message being displayed on the screen advising owners to contact technical support.

The company said in a statement: "After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three-flashing-red-lights error on the console.

"As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty programme for certain general hardware failures."

Microsoft has also pledged to refund any owners who have already paid for repairs.

Then it Red ringed, was comedy.

I X-clamped his 360, was working for a few weeks. We were playing cod4 it froze, we turned it off and back on and hey presto E79 :)

Exact same screen as E74 But with E79 instead, new on for me too.

so thats what the most recent system update is for :) rename the 74 to 79 so MS don't have to honor the warranty :)
