make my own music

does anyone know what software i need to make my own music and edit it aswell

Depends what kind of music your into I guess.

I took a course last year to learn Propellerheads 'Reason' as I like House music. It uses it's own default file system ie RNS but you can save in WAV or MP3 and then use any other software to edit it.

I use Reason and Goldwave for editing.

Each to their own!!

My mate used to mess around with a program called Fruity Loops,ive never used it myself.

m8 uses adobe audition 1.5, can be used in many ways, 1 setup is a home studio up to 128 multitrack system, easy setup comes with 4500 preset loops.
