the council are going try and bring in a 2 weekly bin collection do you think this will cause a big problem for us all there will be more fly tipping that ever

Our council has been doing this for over a year now. Its discraceful more rubbish than ever blowing round the streets, maggot infested stinking bins in the summer and they give us 2 little recycling tubs with removable lids to make up for collecting normal bins fortnightly, the lids go missing within a week so you end up picking rubbish up from your garden every day. The tubs themselves tend to go walkies very often too.

Now our council is talking about putting microchips in our bins so they can weigh how much waste we are making!

Yep i am affraid fly tipping is the only solution unless you want rat infested homes.

I am in the process of trying to get compensation from my local council for their use of my garage, i now have 2 very large bins ( 1 household, 1 garden ) also 3 small bins for glass, paper, and tins.

There is no way i can now use my garage anymore coz its used up with council bins.
Therefore my car insurance has gone up because of this.

My household bin gets full 2 days before collection, so i have to bag the rest and dispose of them myself as the council want payed to come and collect them.

The Council sucks these days and are heading for a massive fly tipping problem, they will have to employ more people to tackle this problem.

And guess who has to pay for this ?, us daft C***s, with our Taxes.

The Wirral recently went to rotating weekly collections, i.e. normal waste one week, recyclables the next, then normal again etc, and we've got 2 wheelie bins now.

Seems to work at the moment (3 person household), but we've not really had a proper summer to see if there is a sanitation issue with flies/maggots.

Not really noticed an increase in fly tipping or rubbish blowing about, but I'm only a 10 minute drive from the tip.

Thats a good idea, lets all kick out some of our family, then we will have less rubbish, is it fair that households wirth 3 people in get the same size bins with people that have 6, i have the larger bin , 5 people in my house and my bin gets full in 5 days , if i kick 2 people out then the bin should last a full week.

councils specialise in causing problems and then passing the blame,

round my way (west-london) the council complains about having to spend 250,000 a year to remove dumped cars,

well it was the same council that closed atleast 4 scrapyards about 6 years ago,
until then there where no dumped cars, the scapyards patrolled like sharks looking for them!

We have 3 big wheelie bins, one for waste, one for recycling and one for garden waste.

Waste and recycling totate every week and garden rubbish is every 4 weeks.

If you mix the stuff up they simply dont take your rubbish. Sems to be working fine had it for about a year

Thats sounds a better idea to me, than the one ive got.
my recycle waste is more than my weekly household rubbish.
i have small recycle rubbish bins where a large weelie bit would be better, only problem i have is where to put al these bins as i only can put them in my garage, and cant get my car in because of them.

if you do not have enough bin space phone the council and ask them for another most of them will send another bin out within a couple of days just tell them the bin you have will not hold all the refuse produced
while you are complaining about all the flies - maggots and the smell have a thought for the men who collect it all
i am one of those men and the things we have to clear is disgusting
for example
ripped bin bags not in the bin
cheap bin bags that are over loaded and rip and spill all over ( which we have to pick up )
rotten food
other road users shouting coz the road is blocked and they are late
maggot filed bins that have been festering for 2 weeks
starting work at 6am and working till finished around 2.30pm no breaks
driving a 26 tonne wagon along a road and some idiot in a car decides they are in the wrong lane and change so you have to slam the brakes on and prey you dont wipe them or some innocent family out
driving along a road with 1/2 inch either side to get wagon though

and you think you got it bad with 2 week collections

its been a long running feud with me and the local council that i ask for a bigger bin and they say i have to pay for it, well i am afraid its against my principal, i worked all my life, paid all my taxes, poll taxes, council taxes, and all i get is some assho*e saying stop whinging.
where the Fook am i supposed to put my rubbish, the only place i have is my garage, i cant even get my car in anymore because of bins and kerb it bins.

I think the lazy b******s should go back a few years ago where the bin men had to carry the bins to the bin waggon, i am sure that will stop the fookers from whinging.

at least back then you could leave an additional bag or 2 next to the bin and they still got rid of them without moaning. Now if you leave an extra bag it gets left, so i say the council should get their lazy arses in order and do what the public pay for. A collection service

It might work if you have 2 or 3 in the household, but think about us who have 5 or 6 adults living in.

as much as i feel for you mate, it is your chosen profession you could leave that job it is your choice, we have to put up with what ever the council decides. Plus you only get an extra bin from our council if you have 6 or more people living in your house which we do, even so in the last 2 months our council has decided 2 full size waste bins is too much for us and downgraded to 1 big bin and 1 half size bin. Our council tax goes up year upon year yet the services they provide diminish .

They changed us all over to wheely bins to save the council money. Fired a load of preivously employed bin lads. Then they put the contract over to a private company who did it cheaper. And now they want to go to two weekly deliveries????.
I want to work in the council accounts department seems like fun just throwing money down the drain.

P.s. agree with the need to recycle more though.

and we dont leave the extra bags
we collect on a regular basis 125 black bags from one house every two weeks
in one street we collect 6 1/2 tonne alone that is not being lazy you should try it
what has the council got to do with the bin men?? nothing in most cases the council contracts the work out
the only person i see whinging is you

@wizbit it is not the bin company that decide on collection but the council policy

Its this sort of attitude that people want to fly tip.

i am refering to Gateshead council here, some might be alright, but Gateshead sucks.

say no more.

yes but as aftermath states that is your area, lots of other areas are very different to yours. Our collectors refuse to take you bin if the lid is open, we have been warned a couple of times in the last couple of years now for that!

Personally speaking think that the problem lies with the council. They cost cut by farming the work out to private companies. The way the private companies cut there costs is to demand more from their workforce for less money and to reduce the amount that they put in landfill. Meaning that the guys at the front line have more to do for less doe and generally can't keep the public happy...
If the governemnt would keep hold of the companies that they owned to serve the public sector instead of selling them off for short term gain and long term problems we would all be in a better situation.
Where are the monopolies and mergers when it comes to bin emptying anyway. Why isn't there a choice. Opt of the council tax and pay someone private to remove the waste.

Sorry starting to rant.
