(dhcp) Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol is an automatic way of giving IP addresses to your machines if they are using tcp/ip (a protocol) to transfer data from 1 pc to another and to connect to the internet. (sets the last 4 entries automatically in example)
the other way is to use static ip addresses where u have to type them in, although not difficult to setup yourself if the addresses or subnet mask are wrong then the machines will not see each other.
if u go to dos/cmd and type ipconfig /all u will get summat like this
