try the dos method i know u dont have dos in xp but making a boot disk and booting to dos from floppy or usb stick will put u in dos before u hit windows follow the link for the windows and dosflash tuts in pdf

yes my bad for not being more clear tut is for use on standard com port didnt see the usb to serial ur using and would sugest the tut with the latest 1.7 version of dosflash
