iPhone Iphone 5c set up

I have just purchased an Iphone 5c for my daughter for xmas. It is brand new and unlocked, but I need to test it before xmas to make sure everything is fine. My daughter has an Iphone 4s at the mo, so the sim card is different, so I cant use that to test. I do however have another standard sized sim card that's from the same network and unused, could I put this in the Iphone 5c (once sim has been cut to size) to set up and test. Then on xmas day put her sim card in (which again I'll either cut or request a self activating sim from the network)?

yes device is unlocked to any network so you can put in any network sim.

I would be carful here

as far as I know unless brought from Apple the phone will lock the the first sim inserted

if brought from Apple direct the phone is fully unlocked even when a sim is inserted

be careful is all Im saying

The Iphone 5c has come direct from Hong Kong. The sim I have that I maybe able to test with is on Virgin Mobile and my daughter is on Virgin Mobile, so even if it locks to Virgin, then that's not a problem.
