I am in the same position, I was made redundant last september, I retrained so I am now a domestic installer (electrician), I have the 16th edition and all the paperwork for part p.
No one wants to employ a 43 year old with all the paperwork but no experience so I am now apply to the niceic and hopefully will be self employed soon.
To fill in I am forklift driving which isn't a career choice but it covers the bills (just).
I find the trick to staying in work is to be prepared to diversify and not become stuck in a box.
