Ian Hutchinson won the Senior TT in the Isle of Man to become the first rider to win five races in one meeting, although this year’s event was marred by the death of two riders in earlier races.
The two deaths occurred in support races at the event to take the total to 229 in official races or practices on the Snaefell Mountain Course since 1907.
Hutchinson took victory in the showpiece race after it was re-run over four laps following the halting of the initial run, which was stopped after a serious accident saw Guy Martin hospitalised with bruised lungs and minor spinal fractures.
Ryan Farquhar came second with Bruce Anstey third.
The two men who died were killed after accidents on the penultimate day of racing.
Austrian Martin Loicht was injured in the Supersport 2 race on Thursday after a crash at Quarry Bends. His death was confirmed by the ACU on Friday.
Father of two Loicht was a professor of mechanical engineering who was heavily involved in TT.
"I got to know Martin really well by working with him on the TT Zero project as he was developing a bike to compete in that race," Dr Paul King, technical director at the ACU, said. "He was a real character who was passionate and committed to motorcycling and he reflected the amateur spirit and endeavour that pervades the TT."
Paul Dobbs, from New Zealand, died during the same race after crashing at the Ballagarey section of the course.
Also leaving behind a wife and two children, the 39-year-old was described by ACU chairman Jim Parker as "a really popular rider in the paddock and a great competitor… who made many friends in the racing community and will be sorely missed."
