you can edit the /var through ftp.
is there a way of restoring the box if you trash it (is like dreamup for the dreambox) ?

telnet into the box
and copy and paste these commands
if you get no errors then start the liunux I sent you
use gftp to transfer the root.tar to the desktop of your linux
start terminal and copy and paste this into the terminal window
you should get a folder called root appear on your desktop which you can change files in (be very careful what you change)
without changing anything at all go back to the terminal windows and copy and paste this
if you then use gftp to transfer the mtd3.img to your box
then telnet in and send this command.
if the box isn't trashed then you will have the capability to play about with the squashfs area as it is the root folder on your linux setup.
if you have no way to recover the box with a dreamup type utility then don't try this.
