Hi All

Just purchased one of these MB's - MSI Z77A-G45 Motherboard - MSI UK

and expected it to come with a power on connector/switch/led ??

How can i turn it on/off cheaply, don't need a reset as i will have BIOS set to boot up straight away..

It is not going to be mounted in a case but in open for bitcoin rig.

Cheers

the cheapest way would be to butcher an old case and get the switch out of it

but you can just 'short' it to start it.

Find the pins on the motherboard that the power switch connects to, and connect them using the tip of a knife or screwdriver or something.

They'll probably be labelled "pwr sw", but double check :)

Do i not need two switches though ? One for power ON/OFF (like a normal switch) and one rest momentary/reset.

It has these (plus leds etc)

PWR_SW-
PWR_SW+

RST_SW-
RST_SW+

Do i need to short the PWR permanently ? The just 'touch' short the RST ??

Cheers

you dont need a reset button or led's connected. As for the power, just a split second touch should do it, as thats all an actual switch would do anyway. you just have to join the two jumpers, any longer than a second will probably turn the system off again :)

Cheers guys, ill butcher one of something and put a led on.

I normally use the GD65 and meant to order the GD55 as they both have power buttons, saves the hassle.

Just get a screwdriver and touch the power connection for a second it should turn on.
