Try this.. this has worked for me in the past(
first make sure your modem is set to autonegotion 100mb full duplex
by going to local area connection, right click, properties, configure, advanced,
look for anything that says 100mb and FULL, and select that.
This is going to aid you in the future anyway as it is supposed to speed up your connection.
Then the second thing is this, (with the ethernet cable plugged in.. and after setting the manual ip address in tcp/ip settings) leave the power in for about 10 seconds... (without hyperterminal running) then open up the tftp program and you should see the correct ip there.
now keep tftp program open.
take power out of modem, open hyperterm with all the correct settings and plug the modem back in..
