Hi,

a long time ago, i used to know the 'guess the number' trick.. but i cant recall it..

Does anyone know the guess the number trick? it goes something like this, pick a number, double it etc etc sumat like that...

:(

There's so many possibilities !

The trick is to always elimate the number first thought of so whatever you end up with is at the control of your chosen algorithm.

Basic form is -

Think of a number
Subtract the number you first thought of
Answer is 0 !

You can make the actual algorithm as complex as you want but they all pretty much obey that form.

I think he actually wanted the formula like double it times it half it etc i remember this from school although i have also forgot the structure

Think of a number between 1 and 10

Double it

Add 10

Divide it by 2

Add 4

Take away your original number.

This the one??

1 = 9
2 = 9
3 = 9

and so on

Or this one -

Think of a number between 10 and 20.

Add the two digits together. Example: 11 (1+1=2)

Subtract the new number from your original number.

Finally, subtract 5 from the remainder. Remember this number, forget the others. This is your number.

Imagine every letter of the alphabet has a number associated with it (A=1, B=2, etc.). Think of the LETTER associated with your number.

Think of a country that begins with that letter.

Now, move one letter down the alphabet and think of an animal that begins with that letter.

Now pick a colour

What did you choose?

Most people will pick the same thing. ;)

earwigg999,

You reminded me,

ok its quite similiar to your first trick:

1) think of a number 1-100
2) Double the number
3) Add 32 (a random i picked)
4) Half the number
and

5) Now minus the number you picked in step 1 with the number you have now...

Your answer should be: 16

This one worked, but I ended up with -16?

At the start, did you pick a minus number? it must be between 1-100...

Think of a number between 10 and 20…………..16

Add the two digits together. Example: 11 (1+1=2)…………1+6 = 7

Subtract the new number from your original number 16 – 7 =………………..9

Finally, subtract 5 from the remainder. Remember this number, forget the others. This is your number 9-5=……………………..4

Imagine every letter of the alphabet has a number associated with it (A=1, B=2, etc.). Think of the LETTER associated with your number……………. 4 = D

Think of a country that begins with that letter………………..Denmark

Now, move one letter down the alphabet and think of an animal that begins with that letter…………………… crocodile

Now pick a colour………….pink

so does most people pick a pink crocodile from denmark :Biggrin2:

1 letter down from D = E, not up to C. Try Grey Elephant and Denmark.

1 letter down from D = E, not up to C. Try Grey Elephant and Denmark.

thats where ive gone wrong then, so for my brain to understand it, it should have said one letter after D and not one letter down from D as i automatically went back the way - jeeez i shouldn't look at these things

berley wot was u thinking
A,B,E,D,C,F etc , everyone knows the alphabet

i still reckon one letter down from D is C but i best not argue cos i've already posted about my O'Level results in a thread that femalelizzard done :roflmao:

but if i had read the post correctly it said one letter down the alphabet and that makes sense that its E lol

taxceeee lol

At the point where you have picked a country in the example above, You can then say think of the last letter in the country name, pick an animal biginning with that letter then pick a colour biginning with last letter of the animals name.

And usually you get.

an orange kangaroo from denmark.

Or a Koala bear :) Back to the thread..Pick a number ... double it add ????? Halve it take away the first number you thought of and the answer is always half the number you first thought of.

Think of an even number between 2-500

half it

add 120

double it

add 1000

divide by 10

add 1000

multiply by 4

half it

The answer is 72
