CD & DVD dvd backup

Hi, I am buying a dvd writer and have been told I can backup my dvd's, is this true without having to rip them I was also told that if they are bigger than 4.7gig you can't put extras on only full films, if this is correct how is it done and what is the best software.

If the DVD is bigger than 4.7 gig, you have to rip the DVD & rempeg the movie. If it's just slightly over the 4.7 gig limit, you could use IFOedit to get rid of adverts etc to make it that bit smaller.

i have just bought a pioneer dvd writer and i have a toshiba dvd rom. nero 5.582 came with it but cannot suss out how to use the software can't see any references to dvdr in the nero menu any help would be gratefully appreciated. cheers
