what are the differences between dsl broadband and normal broadband. the costs, the speed of connection, etc.. thanks for any info.

Digital Subscriber Line (xDSL) is a generic term for a broadband connection.

broadband is a term loosely used for anything faster then a dilaup connection. When isdn was first release it was termed as a broadband connection.

Broadband is now used more often in reference to an ADSL connection. Internet speeds vary depending on your package, typically 512k for aound £20.00.

Check h**p://www.ADSLguide.org for more info.

i heard with dsl you can access it over the old copper phone lines. wheres with other broadbands you cant. is this correct.

What's called Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) works over the existing twisted copper pair telephone system (at your end but there is some rackmount gear involved at the exchange - The DSLAM), a bit confusing as cable DSL is also asymmetric but isn't called that.

Asymmetric just means that the upload speed is not the same as the download speed.

ADSL = Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line.
with adsl, you get a slower upload speed, than your download speed.
it's usually cheaper than cable broadband, and you wont need to change your line.
it uses a dsl modem, which are cheap, and small.
you can get a 2Mb adsl package from Tiscali for £20/month.

Broadband is exactly what it's called. A wide broad bandwidth. It's just a generic term for high speed internet connections. DSL, Cable, T3 etc. are the more precise names for whatever connection you're using.

adsl4less £14.99 per month 512k broadband no restrictions
