Latest anti Piracy Action
Thursday, November 8, 2001.

Police officers from Kent constabulary, accompanied by representatives of FACT (Federation Against Copyright Theft), raided an internet company located in the Maidstone area on Tuesday 6th November, following a period of surveillance. Several computers and a large number of gold pirate cards were recovered. The web site was also a source of information and advice for customers seeking cards, programmers etc.

All the equipment and material seized will now be the subject of detailed expert forensic examination, following which FACT and the police will decide what further action should be taken against the author of the web site.

I have to say I am getting a bit worried about the knock on the door as I bought a programmer and gold cards recently from a Northern supplier (MB) and if they get a raid..... and the authorities get their sales invoices....

What exactly do the authorities have power to do regards entry to my house? Can I legally tell them to get stuffed and come back later whilst I 'lose' the dodgy kit?

You can tell them to do one, but if they have a warrent they can enter at will.

I wouldn't worry unless your a dealer, they won't get permision for a warrent to raid your house for the odd card.

i think its cardman ???

You may find that these guys have the same power as T.V licence lot and have the power to enter your house on the warent that they hold.

** licence lot have no power to enter on their first visit, my neighbour got a visit from them and he told them he had no ** so F*** off, they had no choice and left.

yep im one of them ** license dodgers (only when im not working and cant afford it) and ive had visits and the ONLY time they can access your house is if they visit with police officers and a warrant

Point taken, BUT if u look in his news section regarding his raid he states:

"To begin with then the person from FACT who is one of the most "evil" people I have ever seen accused me of the crime of selling pirate I** Digital cards. This claim could easily have been shown as wrong by simply asking to buy such a card, when anyone asking for such a card would basically be told to "get lost".

However, as it is clear from my site that I do not sell such a card, then apart from asking for things like keys and firmware (equals "get lost"), then I cannot recall any customer ever asking for such a card. "

Hmmmmm......I wonder!!!

Ahwell we'll never know???

With letters like this coming from IT V Digital your going to get people grassing........

UK digital terrestrial operator I** Digital has issued a letter to its 1.2 million subscribers warning of the perils of using pirated smartcards. In the letter I** Digital said it will replace illegal cards with genuine subscriptions with “no questions asked.” The letter also said the company may withdraw all current smartcards. “Piracy is a significant problem,” said a spokesman. “It has become more significant in recent months since the launch of the sports channel.” The company said that pirates have also turned their attention to I** Digital after previously focusing on mainland Europe, where the Mediaguard conditional access system it uses was first cracked.
A copy of the letter:
You may have read in **7 and the newspapers about the recent arrival of illegal I** Digital smartcards in the UK. As a valued customer of I** Digital we wanted to take this opportunity to advise you of how we are dealing with piracy. If people try to sell you a pirate smartcard or you are aware of people knowingly using pirate smartcards, it would assist us greatly if you could forward to us any information that would assist in apprehending these criminals.

Making or selling illegal smartcards is a criminal offence for which the sentence can include a jail term. It is also a criminal offence to use smartcards which are known to be illegal. Those who use counterfeits, whether they are DVDs, smartcards or software are not only stealing from the companies who are legally entitled to receive the revenues but are also damaging the interests of legitimate customers, who may well have to pay more as a result of this.

The people behind piracy are often serious criminals, often linked to organised crime and serious criminal activity, including drug dealing. I** Digital seeks to investigate and prosecute anyone involved in piracy, from the manufacturer to the user.

We have a range of measures to deal with this. A sophisticated intelligence system monitors all the methods used to distribute pirate smartcards. We are working with different agencies, including the police, and we raid premises where we believe cards are manufactured, stored, sold or being used. We also use electronic counter measures which will stop illegal cards working and disrupt the viewing of anyone using them. We can also, if appropriate, withdraw all existing cards and replace them with cards which the pirates will be unable to copy.

Recently we have made a number of successful raids, and every time we do, we immediately seize computers, and all other evidence which often give us access to lists of names, addresses, email addresses and other details of those involved in this criminal activity and those purchasing these cards.

Anyone who thinks they may inadvertently have a pirate card has a chance to put it right. If they call us on 0870 *** **** and their card turns out to be illegal we'll substitute it for a genuine card and a proper subscription, no questions asked.

am i being stupider than normal but in the nice letter from i** *igit** they say that they have the right to with draw card already issued and replace with card that are unable to be copied. well if it was my business i would issue the uncopable cards in the first place. is that sense or are they full of nappie fillings.

I've never partaken in ANY cad copying, so why do the bother??? Somehow I don't think copied cards are there real problem.
