This government and past governments have ignored improving the day to day infrastructure, roads everywhere are in a state of disrepair, there are acute housing shortages throughout the country, they have ignored the upkeep of rivers and and flood defences (with the exception of the City part of the Thames). They have made hollow promises to help out flood victims and the "package" offered to help out flooded farms and farmers equates to £5000 per farm.
Yet they are happy to bail out ailing banks but still allow them to pay out excessive bonuses to the bankers, they happily throw money at unpopular schemes like HS2, they defend Foreign Aid to countries that patently exploit that aid or indeed not not even need it.
And now, George Osbourne in response to the Ukrainian situation he has said "Britain will be ready 'with a chequebook' to help 'rebuild' the country"
