BT ADSL offer

Anyone seen the current offer from BT at the moment?

The Plug and Go package is ADSL where you buy the equipment off them for £85 and then install it yourself. Then it's only £30 a month.

Sounds great?

For people who don't have access to telewest or NTL it is, BUT WITH ONE CATCH.

Due to BT's strange company policy, you cannot pay buy any other means than VISA or MASTERCARD.

So for people like me who don't like using credit cards and don't have one, your stuffed.

I went through the online order forms only to find that the choices of payment were for credit card only.

Thinking this was just because it was an internet order, I called them.

After 20 minutes of waiting, I got to some operator that told me the ONLY way to pay is credit card.

He had the check to say this is the way things are going, trying to suggest that most companies will be accepting credit card only payments!

They seem to going in reverse as this was the case a few years back but now?

Anyway, I have ranted enough.

Please feel free to go to BT's web site and put in a complaint about the problem, so maybe one day I can get high speed access at a semi-reasonable price.

Hi,

I know that damn creditcard-problem too.
I also dont like credit cards...i have my bank-card and my ec-card (is free)...so why should i pay for a creditcard (20 Euro a year)...which i would not use much..
I feel with you....

There are plenty of credit cards available with no annual fee. Or get a VISA debit card from your bank if they offer it. Don't understand why u both don't like them they're probably the safest way to spend your money, they're insured and you can set low credit limits if your worried you'll get carried away!

If not wanting to get a credit/debit card is the only reason stopping you get ADSL its a pretty poor one!

And by the way, there are plenty of other providers now offering cheaper ADSL access like the BTopenworld offer you mentioned. They're called 'Wires Only' access where they just activate the line and you get your own ADSL modem and microfilters to plug in the phone sockets, or the ISP will sell you a pack like BT are doing.

Checkout www.adslguide.org.uk or www.ispreview.co.uk for more info, PIPEX are doing it for £23/month, but i think you'll find most ISPs want a credit/debit card for the first months payment and then you can setup a direct debit after that.

Hi you !!!

I have T-DSL...and i did not need a creditcard for that. All things i did buy online i could pay without having a creditcard. In EUROPE ..i only need my EC-Card and i can go shopping in London, Barcelona, ect....
We in Germany can not get a creditcard for free...only if you get more then 1500 euro the months on your account,or you are a student...that is shit.

So why should i get a Creditcard...i always found other solutions to get things i wanted to buy.

See you !!!!

Thanks Dark Angel.

Dudley mate, why should I have to go through the process of getting a credit card just to get a service off BT when I already a customer.

Don't you think it's a little bit inconsiderate of them to only let people with credit cards get the service. They are not even allowing Direct Debit!

Anyway, I'll try the links so thanks for those.

The only reason I am so annoyed is that I used to have broadband at my last house. But now I am stuck with only a BT line.

Also, how reliable are the ASDL services from other providers?

Thanks for the replies.

indudley, that's true it is inconsidarate of BT considering you are already a customer, but understandable of other ISPs becuase they need to payment secured straight away to get the process started.

Its BTOpenworlds's loss now, they'll obviously be losing customers like yourself who don't use credit cards. Go through the list of ISPs on the the links i gave you i'm sure there will be a few who can arrange payment without a credit card, but you'll be limiting your choice.

As an ex broadband user i know you understand the benefit of having a high speed connection which in my opinion will make the hassle of getting a credit card easily worth it! Or why not borrow a friend's card for the first month payment if you can?

I've just signed up with Pipex ADSL (just because they were the cheapest and had no minimum contract) after leaving my NTL broadband connection in my old house, so i don't have any experience with ADSL providers but there are plenty of reviews on the two websites.

Good luck mate!

BT cheap at £30, not !!

I have been with BT for over 2 year now, and was going to go with AOL gold because they do the same better and cheaper than BT. I rang up to tell them that I wanted to cancel my subscription, and the very pleasant lady in iNDIA TOLD ME THAT i REALLY DIDNT WANT TO. She clarified this by telling me that they would lower my subscription price to £21.59 (odd amount but I am not complaining) a month, and that my line would also be getting upgraded to 2 gig.
I really ought to get on to AOL now and see what they can do to beat BT !!!! LOL
