bluray

It like the thing that killed Steve Irwin, only it flashes its bits at people, instead of killing em.

lol

same idea as a DVD (and look the the same too) but blue ray discs can hold around 5 times the info of a DVD. Because they have crammed so much info into the same space, they have had to make the laser that reads it much much finer (higher wavelength), as a result the laser beam has ended up turning blue in colour.

Both HDDVD and blueray players have a blue laser beam. the increadsed capacity discs can hold much higher quality pictures than DVD but you need a special player and TV to get the most from it!!

like the way you had dvd-r and dvd+r
both dvd recordables just different formats but theay both held 4.7g on a single layer

so now because of high definition a new disc was needed to store more data
so now you got the invention of hd-dvd by toshiba wich can hold 50gig
and blu-ray dvd by sony wich holds 25gig per side
but nothing to say that you wont be able to get a double sided hd-dvd wich will hold upto 100gig

basically you got cd then dvd and now hd-dvd and blu-ray
all look the same but have different capacity

Tango - you got it wrong buddy.

BluRay holds 50gb whereas HD-DVD holds 15gb (single layer) and 30gb (dual layer).

As you can see, in terms of capacity - BluRay wins hands down!

Might hold more but still think that HD-DVD will win the format war

who needs either. you can get a 720p h264 film on a dvd-r which looks great on any mainstream hdtv(with a htpc) . 1080p is great for people with footy size pitch living rooms with a 60" tv - otherwise fairly much pointless - for now.

Once Ps3's or £180 - I'll be bothered - cos at the same time 50-100mb BB will be the norm And your current 1366x768 HDTV's wll be obsolete.

Ooh just contadicted meselfd but i'm bolloxed and fed up wiv delete key
