after several unsuccessful attempts at trying jtag to recover my box i saw this on ebay LINK REMOVED. i just replaced the bootloader chip which was quite fiddly and hey presto working box and at just 6 quid cheaper than the cypress board.

Well done mate they are a very small chip.

Still dont get rid of the cypress board as there is always a chance you'll brick it again.
