anyone using portable hard drive for recording?

hi
i got this new 2.5"portable hard drive
the receiver is not recognising it - may be its not getting enough power from the usb
i can the light on in the hard drive
i plug it in laptop or my tv, they recognise it easily

anyone using portable usb hard drive?

do you need to provide extra power for them to run when connected to the openbox?
i managed receiver to see the hdd, but then i got write failed error
its a new hdd.
i can copy stuff from my pc to hdd but the receiver cannot write into it
it can write into other hdd no problem

I have a 2.5" 320Gb usb drive without external power supply.
I can record sd & hd channels without any problem. It is formated in fat32 by a windows xp pc.
I don't think it's the boxes fault because it can record on any usb pen drive I tried so I guess your hard drive must be weak.
You could try with a usb hub with external power sypply and see if it works.

i tried connecting to a usb power supply
no luck
infact sometimes it is restarting my box :-(
it is perfect when connected to my tv

you answered your own question m8 the hdd is no good swap it for the one that works with the openbox not all hdds are equall
