DVB - PC Cards Anyone got Vista MCE working with DVB-c and CAM yet?

"In the way of cams, the cheapest possible way to do things would be to use a black icecrypt from wizardsatellite for £14.95 at the mo (link in another recent thread), the upgrade the firmware to make it a Joker cam (also posted on this forum) so it supports Nagra encryption. You will need buy a CAS2/3 to do this, or if you request politely another forum member may be kind enough to do it for you."

Would it not be easier to just buy a Matrix Reloaded cam for £15.00 as it supports Nagra and would not require flashing?

I believe the Matrix cam has been tested and confirmed as not working, it's in the working cams list thread

I would avoid wizard satellite, though. I ordered a Diablo CAM off them a week and a half ago and still haven't seen it, although I have had an email to say it's been dispatched.

I've emailed (three times) and called loads but I've had no resopnse.

Back again, finally got round to trying this vista setup again and i've come to a halt with the epg. It gets a few channels in the guide but the rest are blank, i know there should be a registry edit somewhere but i'm clueless otherwise
Any help guys?

Funnily enough I'm sat here scanning for channels as I type.

I was thinking that it must pull the guide for Cable using parameters from somewhere, so it ought to be possible to tell the TV card section of the registry to use the FireDTV and the Guide bit to "pretend" it's still setup for normal cable. I'll have a look in a bit.

Garlicbred - you said earlier that the trick is to use a reg file to add the correct transponders to the registry, then run the setup twice - did you mean to scan for channels in MCE twice, or to actually run the FireDTV setup twice?

Hmm, nothing conclusive - I swear I saw somewhere once a URL that seemed to include the region, Postcode and provider id etc.

Keys are under HKLM>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>WINDOWS>CURRENTVERSION>MEDIA CENTER>SERVICE>EPG

&

HKLM>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>WINDOWS>CURRENTVERSION>MEDIA CENTER>SETTINGS>PROGRAMGUIDE

In EPG my Headend is set to 520020, supplierid is 5 and in PROGRAMGUIDE strProviderId is 520020 and there's a Version that's set to 65537. I'm East Midlands VM STB. Dunno if that helps at all.

In your transponder list, how many digits are the frequencies? The services.xml I have has them as 9 digits, the FireDTV guide says they should be 8 digits, but all their examples show 6 digits. Also, the symbol rates are 7 digits in the services.xml and four in the transponder list?

Finally; I found a CI_Tool on www.digital-everywhere.com that connects to the CAM through the FireDTV, it can read it, but I don't think I can set anything. I've stuffed theNTL Card in the CAM and it's read two hex numbers off it...

I'm going to have to come back to this one after a bit of reading I think!
I have my setup in the front room running on my tv so its not often that I get chance to sit down and have a mess as vista is on a seperate drive to my main xp setup. Its just a little project that I've got running for those rainy days
I can't find my transponder list for vista for some reason! I'll dig it out and post it shortly
Cafe.racer - what cam / card setup have you got there mate?

Diablo in a FireDTV. Was either going to use the subs card or no card at all. Haven't flashed the CAM at all, I was hoping to use the laptop but can't, then I realised that the CAM already has Stealth 2.something on it...

Transponder list is in the *.reg file you created? In the FireDTV setup folder?

I need some help, I have a couple of frustrating things going off and I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing on either...

One issue I'm having is transponder frequencies. It's taking ages to find all the channels, and doing 8mhz steps is finding loads of repeated/redundant channels. The original services.xml I was using was for Nottingham, I'm in NG17 and only one Transponder code seemed to work (I used this as a starting point for my 8mhz steps. So, does anyone have a services.xml for my area?. Alternately, I can get my STB into engineer mode, but is there any info anywhere on what the frequencies are/mean? I went into engineer mode with one of the Discovery Channels on and it listed two frequencies, something like 624000 mhz and 124000 mhz. Is the 624000 the transponder frequency?

Sorry for the lengthy post - wasn;t sure whether to break it up and start new threads or not :Kickassro

I've got two firedtv's on Vista Media Center. I've got two Dragon Cams working fine with two fun cards. They decode all channels including BBC HD. However I get the odd freeze with the cam. I wanted to try a Diablo cam myself and have jsut bought one. Any tips on how you got yours working? I've already loaded Stealth 2.06 and se the box key to match the card. Did I miss anything?

:Biggrin2: I've just posted in your other thread about turning emulation on, on a Diablo

Back on thread then :angelwing

It rained yesterday, did you get chance to have a play with the guide settings? I went in and changes the two headend settings in the registry, but I was scanning for channels at the time, and MCE binned.

I think it'll work - when I went back in to set it up I set it up on the Analogue TV card as an Analogue Cable signal, it gave me the guide download choices for Digital...

Sorry, not had chance to mess yet! Tomorrows looking like it might be a stop in and have a dabble
To be honest with you I'm a bit clueless when it comes to editing the registry and such things so you'll have to bear with me

Tried it again this evening. I'd exported the two sections from the registry a few days ago when Ihad it set up for Cable via STB and an analogue card, so I just merged them back in and it updated the guide fine.

The channel numbers in the guide aren't the same as the numbers for the actual channels, I think because it tries to match the guide to the channels using the Channel name, so where the scanned channel name is BBC 1 and the Guide says BBC One it's not got the guide info.

There's an option under guide maintenance called "Add listing to channel" where you can match the scanned channels with the guide channels, and it saves the results in prefs.xml (so you can back that up).

My only issue with this is that each time I've scanned, I seem to have ended up with different channel numbers  So, if it all goes wrong, having a prefs.xml might not help.

One other issue I've got is the same as reported on the FireDTV forums, where the FireDTV "loses" the signal between FTA and Encrypted channels.

Finally managed to find that services file lol

Just copy and paste this lot into the transponder list if you're in excw

Its a brute force file so it should pick everything up!

cafe.racer - any further news on that EPG yet cos I'm stuck and need some help with the registry editing please

Ok, had most of the day at this one now and I'm nearly there
Edit the files mentioned by cafe.racer using regedit with the code for your area - which I cant find!!! I've found one for midlands though which adds most of the channels to the epg
So far so good!
To be honest though I don't really think its worth all the hassle, mediaportal does the same job! its just not quite as pretty as vista mce......

Sorry, been at wedding, looks like you got it all working though?

I'm missing a few channels (Eurosprt and Boomerrang are the one's I'd noticed). I'll try your transponder list, but I'm Pure nthell.

I thought I could get a services from I guy a I know, but it's not to be.

Does the guide natively work in media portal?

What would make it good would be some work from FireDTV to make the drivers allow you to edit channel numbers and chaneel names...
