Any Citroen experts here ?

My Parents live in spain and have a problem with the Air con on there Citroen, They say the Air con is not very cold, the car is slow to start in hot weather, the engine idling is too fast and the engine pinks, from what they have figured out, Apparently, the car thinks it is very cold, so it kills the aircon cold supply, races the engine, and retards (I think) the timing, hence the collection of faults, including 'pinking' The car is a Citroen Xantia type X-DHXA, Model 19 ID SX Diesel, and its Zim is VF 7X1DHXF72032849, I'm over there on the 19th of this month so will no doubt have to have a look at it so any help, pointers would be very much appreciated.

I have never worked on one of those cars m8 but from what you have said i would look at the temp switch, it will be found around the front of the block.
