ive recently got an inspiron one 2330 with a Pentium g2020 in it,now im happy with most aspects of it,with an ssd in it performs well enough but i would like up the cpu

from what i understand its a 1155 socket, but with it being an all in one im sure there are other criteria that need filling for a smooth upgrade

from the research ive done these all seem compatible

  1. Ivybridge,I5-3550s, 65w, 4c,E1
  2. Ivybridge,I7-3770s, 65w, 4c,E1
  3. Ivybridge,I5-3450S,2.8,65w, 4c,E1
  4. Ivybridge,I5-3330S, 65w, 4c,E1 but they are all on the pricey side ,i think even an i3 would be an improvement over what i have,my needs aren't a powerhouse anymore just quick unraring and video conversion would be fine for me

im thinking this Intel Core i3 3240 Dual Core 3.4GHz LGA1155 HD 2500 3MB Processor - BX80537I33240 - CCL Computers
,as it has same power usage as what i have currently but it seems an awful small selection

anybody help me here please
cheers

Normal desktop you'd be able to chuck in almost any LGA 1155 CPU, and upgrade the cooler if needed.

Because it's an all-in-one unit, upgrading the CPU cooler is all but impossible - though quality thermal paste may save a few °C. As such you need to keep an eye on the TDP of the CPU. The TDP of the G2020 is 55W, I'd avoid going much higher.

A high end i3 or low to mid range i5 is probably going to get you the best returns for most people.

But it'll depend on your budget, and what you want to be able to do with it?

As the i7 3770S is the best you're going to be able to fit, but at ~£220 isn't a cheap upgrade (you'd need to make sure its the S, as the 3770K is 77W TDP).

thank you little pb,last question would this fit Intel Core i3 2310M.been offered cheap from out of a laptop,no idea when it comes to this-i think it may be a bga chip but not sure, got my eye on an i3 3225 on ebay for cheap too

figured as much, thanks little pob, ended up getting a 3225 for 35 quid, opted for that due to better onboard graphics.
