Hi, pulling hair out.

Got an abit n68sv motherboard, amd 4200 cpu, standard heatsink and new 500w psu and 1gig memory

Psu, CPU and memory tested and is ok.

Board is stripped down to bare minumum.

Can get to post once, as soon as entering bios and then saving and restarting system, board powers down and wont post, will power on for a second and then power off, green light on motherboard on for a second then off, if cmos is reset will post and power on allowing me to enter bios again but then same happens again. cpu is not overheating.

PLEASE HELP

are you changing any settings on the bios or just exiting it
will the machine run windows or linux from disk

no, wont run anything, because once cmos reset only options are del to enter bios or f1 to continue, if continue without entering bios board powers off and only way to activate is to reset cmos, on entering bios have tried changing to optimal defaults, basic defaults and changing everything to off, same thing happens. weird

Update. Convinced it must be bios. After cmos reset can go into bios and change everything and it stay on for long time, as soon as saved and rebooted, no matter what settings were set in bios starts to boot and powers off, then wont power back on until cmos reset, just spins fan for split second.

bios is dated 02/19/2008, resets after nvmm 4.074.2912/04/07.

If this is a date they dont match, not sure if they should.

Is there a key press on switch on that will allow bios update without the cmos checksum error press f1 to continue after cmos reset.
