Cheers Rat, ive got an old ps3 hdd in there atm (40gb) but i think its stuffed! I only use the hdd for timeshift / crossEPG & it allways packs up when im timeshifting the soaps etc (sad i know).

sorry to drift off from the original post but u think this 500gb external is a bit excessive or would say a 16gb usb drive do the trick. i have a 16gb stick lying around somewhere, not sure how much disk space is used when timeshifting. Im normally only shifting maybe 10 to 20 mins, ie time for quick slash, smoke & crack open another beer....

I have the same problem, mate. At the moment I'm using a Western Digital "My Book" with my Openbox. It records fine but freezes when I use time-shift. I was thinking about going for one of these Hitachi's but I'm not sure if it'll be any different.
