Hey guys.

Got a new laptop around Christmas with Windows 8 on it. it was one of them Argos refurbs, its been great apart from the OS. I promised myself I'd try out win 8 and well its been 3 months and I still feel like slitting my wrists every time it boots.

I hate the lack of start menu
how the jingle (or whatever that bullshit pane on the right hand side is called) is so unreliable
i hate how my mousepad freezes for a sec after i type.
I hate the apps feature, every app is useless and slow.
most of all i think its not as stable as win 7, it freezes waaaay to often.

So i wanted to ask, are there any advantages that I should know about? if not is there a non-hack way of reverting to win 7 and how would i opt back into win 8 again in the distant future.

Cheers

Crazy

it shouldn't be unreliable, i find it very stable, might be wroth doing a fresh instal before you go any further.

the major pain in the ass is the lack of start button.

here is a program that puts the start button back, laptop will boot to your desktop rather than them tiles rubbish. :)

View attachment Stardock Start8 Full Version (No Crack - No Patch - No Serial).rar

P.S.
This works on win8 only, doesn't work on 8.1

do a fresh iinstal of win8, run the start8 proggie and see if u like it. :)

Sorry i can not convince you.I have ran windows 8 and 8.1 both times had so much hassle and grief not being able to do stuff or get drivers installed for various things i reverted back to win 7.

it sh* go back to windows 7 ..lol

Can you believe it's been 16 months since 8 was released fully?!?!

not long till we see first look @ Win 9 either lol

Win 7 for me all day

Thanks lads,
I think I'll revert back.

Is there a legitimate way for me to get win 7?

and whats the easiest way to rip the drivers off my laptop or do i have to manually download them all again? Which drivers will I need exactly? I've never done this before.
Also is there a way to port the toshiba eco charge app across? It charges my battery to 80% then the laptop just works off AC power.

What about recovery and stuff like that? will that be affected? Usually theres a hdd partition for it but i can't see one in my computer. would it just be a case of reinserting a win 7 cd and carry on as you would with a desktop PC?

And reverting back to win 8, will that ever be possible again?

Cheers again

to install any drivers you want you have to disable driver signature in windows 8/8.1

Windoze 7 is the long term support OS so 8 probably won't be around too long, like Vista.

why go back to windows 7 ?????

I can remember having to re-install XP and vista every month :(

win 7 every 6monthes or so , not that's not bad at all.....

but win 8 , im coming up to 12 to 18 monthes and still don't have to re-install... best and fastest ever windows so far......

I cant get a grip with all this NO start menu crap.....

its still there ( ie start screen ) and and at least you can customise your start menu ( ie start screen ) to how you want it......

get over this start menu crap :)

Windows xp is a fantastic os and i have a laptop that i use for various things with serial and printer ports..it has xp on it and i have had it for 9 years now..re-installed twice i think but it was my fault i had to re-install it one of the times.

Vista was a disaster..so much so that windows 7 was realeased shortly after vista appeared because it was so bad taking so many resources.

Win 8 i do not like and i usually install windows 7 when friends bring their fooked laptops to me but i see with newer laptops drivers are only available for win8/8.1 making it a little harder to get the correct drivers either by trying win8 drivers or going dierct to the manufacturer site that made the components.

It would be if it was really that simple!.its meant to be but it just is not.i have ran win 8 a few times and I had all sorts of bother.i do a lot of repair work re flashing android phones and other devices I need to connect to computer to communicate with to sort out but I had loads of problems seeing devices etc in win 8 even when installing drivers manually..also these Linux sat boxes I have loads of hassle doing my stuff using win 8,,reinstall 7 and everything is good.
I will install win 8.1 again soon as I don't like to be beaten..but last time I was on 8.1 I got a fatal error for no reason I could see and needed a reinstall so went back to 7.
Don't get me wrong I love win 8 so much faster than 7 and a nicer feel.

reflashing android phones and stuff is a little away from the norm of everyday computing tho .... and you still even need to use xp for that kind of stuff..

all im saying is that with a little bit of knowledge you can still get things to run on win 8 by using win compatibility mode... like old printers headphones and stuff....

and the start menu is now the start screen, which after you customise it to how you want it to be is a lot easier in the long run to use cause you aint got everything listed that you don't use ...

my opinion of course ;) lol

you are correct in some instances i do get stuff to work.I also repair/build/modify computers for people who can not afford mainstream repair shops as a volunteer so i know my way around them fairly well..I know win 7 and 8 inside out i install them on all my repair computers after beefing up the ram..
In only my experience there is still a fair amount i can not do on win 8.1 yet.. so for now i will stick with win 7..i have 8.1 AIO disc ready to go back too when i fancy a change.

Support for XP stops in 9 days (8th April 2014).

Vista was a disaster..so much so that windows 7 was realeased shortly after vista appeared because it was so bad taking so many resources.
Windows 95 was released 25 months after 3.1.
Win 98 was released 20 months after 95.
Win ME was released 27 months after 98.
Win XP was released 18 months after ME.
Vista was released more than 5 years after XP.
7 was released 18 months after Vista.
8 was released 24 months after 7.

This makes XP the anomally :p The delay to Vista was largely down to the anti-competitive legal action taken by the US and EU.
