Locked DM800

I bought a subscription 10 months ago,now the seller has disappeared(my bad,I shouldn't have gone that route).The problem is I am left with a locked box.How do I unlock it?Is it as simple as doing a factory reset?

Thank you for the reply KhuramG.I presume that c line would only work with that particular server anyway?I am a noob so I am not sure.
It looks like he has completely vanished,he has stopped emailing me back,saying don't worry you will get any lost sub time added to your subscription when the problem is resolved,that was a couple of weeks ago.

Yes that's correct it will only connect to his server. It might be a genuine problem at his end but if he's no longer replying to your emails for the last 3 weeks he's probably gone.

By reflashing your box with a new image you will be able to add a new c line from elsewhere.

If you do a search you will find quite a lot about this (bob I presume) I dont know what box you have but it could be as easy as doing a quick factory reset, worst case is a re-flash but even that does not take long. If it is bob make sure your box is not connected. Dur just seen dm800

Yeah he changed the root passwords.Then he would ask for a fee if you wanted anything changed,like channel updates etc.His excuse was so you couldn't mess with his server.

you can reset the password to the standard password (dreambox)
you will need to install Tuxbox Commander on the box via the Image addondownload

Fire up Tuxbox commander and navigate to var/etc folder

Select the passwd file. Hit 4 to edit it.

You'll see something like this:

root:$1$$3er43323sBBCAw.ofBbt.:0:0::/:/bin/sh
sshd:*:65532:65534::/:/bin/false
ftp:*:65533:65534::/:/bin/false
nobody:*:65534:65534::/:/bin/false

Your root password will obviously be different to the above.

Now replace the first line with this :

root:$1$$34NPeumc9sBBCAw.oUaM80:0:0::/:/bin/sh

That resets the password to dreambox

Another way is the original passwd file may be passwd~ - rename the current passwd file to say passwd.old and then rename passwd~ to passwd - and now the password will be dreambox

another method you could also delete the password altogether and use 'passwd' at a command line to reset it, This would be easier than typing in with the remote control.

Just delete the part marked between the colons.
