If you have Openbox/Skybox/Hibox S9(S10) HD PVR with Ali3602 BGA, you can check to see if it is a clone or original

1. Upgrade our latest software
2. Press menu---tool---information(press ok)---press 777777 key.

If you see CCID is one of "00D0/00EA/085B/0D0C/98A1/98F2/9CF4/9D1A“. Congratulatations! your HD Receiver is original!!
You can upgrade our any firmware and experience and enjoy much more more new functions.
if your STB`s CCID is other datas, and you do upgrade, your HD receivers will be killed!!

well i bought mine from the manufacturer as a sample and its CCID is 0100 so keccywan supplied me with a clone as a manufacturer's sample although i have flashed it with clone killing software and nothing happened

Maybe she forgot to include 0100 in the list, or it was that long ago?

Email her to see what she says?

Just checked my CCID and it's not one of the ones listed. So unfortunately mine is a clone.

I do understand why the manufacturer might want to do this, but on the flip side for all the people out there who have bought boxes in good faith, including myself, not knowing they are clones it is extremely unfair.

I would think killing a clone box just because it's a clone is a bad idea, it would surely put people off buying any Openbox badged unit in the future just in case. I would certainly think twice now.

Do others agree with this?

You can only run this test if you have the May firmware loaded. I ran the test first and I was like shite. Then i did it with May firm and all good

Isn't it the May firmware that actually kills it though?
So not a really good test to try!!!!

i think 7777 works on all firmwares and didnt DM have a clone killer

I know, its pure stupid. I totally agree with you. I was just saying if you do the test before May it will show up wrong, then update and maybe kill your box.

If it did, you can reflash it with the October firmware.

I dont think it is stupid, its just a manufacturer trying to protect there investment.

I have been selling these boxes on ebay for months and can not compete with the clone ones at £73 with free delivery. I have had 100's of emails through ebay asking me why my boxes are £15 more expensive that the rest, I reply saying as they are clones, and will not accept the newer firmware. But nobody comes back to my to buy mine, they just buy the clone. I even had emails from China trying to sell me the clones, and promises that they work with the latest firmware, when we know it doesn't. I even got an email about a new box called Bolt HD. Its the exact same as an Openbox, in fact I asked my supplier about it and they told me they were a clone of the Openbox, they even sent me the firmware to try on the Openbox.

All advice I can offer is, if the ebay advert didn't describe it as a clone, contact the seller, tell them you want it changing for a proper box or a refund.

Otherwise, you are going to be stuck with the October firmware.

The latest firmware comes with its own little FTP program so you can receive and send your files to the box. The next firmware promises to rule out the rebooting issues.

Sorry guys.

Just found out,
If you use the new software it will let you check your box, if it is a clone, you need to reflash it back to the old firmware, as if it is powered on and off more than 10 times it will kill the box. Here is the quote from the website.

New Software for Openbox S9 HD

Based on last software, we make some update and another version software is released today!

We improve the followings

1. support and read Thailand card

2. Support and read Malaysia card

3 supports internet tool( FTP tool)

4. When you want to identify your receiver, you need to enter "8888", not "777777"

Warm Suggestions:

Before identify , please backup your old software of the box by usb. Download , then upgrade the latest software by usb.
enter menu---tool---information(press ok)---press "8888" key, now you will see CHIP ID , If the box CHIP ID belongs to the chip_id_list, congratulatation!your HD Receiver is original version! You can upgrade any new firmware and experience more new functions. Otherwise, if You Box is clone version , please upgrade the old version software!Because our latest software will kill the clone box when power and on over10 times. If less than 10 times, no kill for clone verion.

The chip_id_list is the following, we will keep them updated everyday:
00D0
00EA
085B
0D0C
98A1
98F2
9CF4
9D1A
When you buy a new box , try to view the chip_id_list on this http page. If you can not find the valid "CHIP ID" on the chip_id_list, it means your box is a clone box.

i am on the 5-may-11 version. i have upgraded from the old versions regularly.
does this mean my box is genuine?
i dont want to run the test. i am worried if the test marks my box as clone

@Swanside That must be the firmware I was hearing about. I didnt mean stupid as such, I can totally see why they are taking these measures. I suppose what I meant was you have to put May firmware on to check if its a clone and by then it was too late, but you have cleared that up with the 10 power on off thing.
Can I ask you something, when a person buys a clone, do they ever look like the original openbox that you sell or do they always look different?

As far as I know, they look the same, until you look inside, then you can see there is a difference in the card holder and the main chip is different, or by the price they are being sold for on ebay. I have stopped selling them now, as I use to get them in the 10's and be stuck with them as others were buying the clones for a bit cheaper, as you would.

All I know is, even if the box does stop working after 10 reboots, I am sure you can still put the old firmware on, even by using the serial lead and the upgrade tool

I have the skybox s9 with ccid 0100:98A1 ,im pretty sure mine has been turned off more than 10 times
i am using 5.11 software with ftp app to transfer files(much easier than trying to stick a usb pen in the back)

sorry i couldnt find the edit button

I was reading the first 0100 number not the second 98A1
with the new firmware 0100 is not there anymore

that will teach me not to read everything twice first :proud:

Have just one more question on this, possibly aimed at swanside and hooley. Isn't the CCID number derived from something in hardware?
So therefore no matter what Firmware version is installed on the box it is always going to report the same, or am I missing something?

Thanks

my box is also chip id 0100 but as the new firmware does not have a proper epg for all channels and the so called ftp is actually udf tcp transfer i will wait to upgrade for a better epg
