I did this last night. after reconfiguring my DM500s that was using cccam to use newcs as server and mgamd as softcam - first time I have configured this and worked straight away, if you are confident with cccam configuration then this setup is straight forward.

feedback much appreciated

Thanks for taking the time and effort mate, will be following this tomorrow!

Thanks for this mate.

So I assume you can only use receivers that support Mgcamd to connect?

anyone interested, managed to get a dm500c from my brother, and set it up with Open PLI and NewCS only - as the server

now I have got my other DM500S with only MGCamd as a client connecting to the server - as I said in document only one client needs to AU the EMM and this is controlled in the mg_cfg file.

updated document - added more information and some clarification

one secure (newcs/mgcamd) and the other one (cccam) isnt very secure as far as I am aware it can leak out card serial number info (can somone clarifiy this for me)

Using this configuration, will I _ever_ need to put the white card back into the original receiver for updates of any kind?

Or, once configured, can I stick the box in the loft and forget about it?

jfish, Thank you, for your hard work.

So that us mere mortals don't end up downloading the same file over & over again, can you Please give any new revisions a number, 1.3.4 etc...

for some reason I am not sure, newcs server on the dm500c seems to terminate once a day, therefore the dm500s as client cant get keys.. doing a ps -aux shows no newcs process.....

not sure if its due to the dm500c acting as a server, may revert back to having the 500s as a server and see if the newcs terminates

as a temp fix, I am running a script to check if newcs is running and if not, to start it.. runs every minute as a crontab

anyone else using dm500c purely as a newcs server getting same issue.

Decided to get off CCCam today and onto NewCS for the DM500s and mgcamd for the TM600.

The TM600 is dead easy as mgcamd is already installed so just needed the 2 files altering and FTP'ing & of course the CAM setting from the Blue button.

The DM500s - that was another story. It has a Gemini image - sod knows which one, but did offer a choice of CCCam & CCCam\NewCS - FTP'd to \var\tuxbox\config - any file there? Nope!

Placing a suitably modded file - nothing doing. Then started looking at running processes - CCCam showing but no NewCS. The fact that there was a CAM called CCCam\NewCS suggested it had been installed at some point.

So downloaded NewCS 16.7 - explored the structure and dropped the ".bin" file where it needed to go, and the ".xml" file at the above location. Still no go - looking at the processes saw both NewCS and CCCam were running, so removed the .bin/cfg files for CCCam and altered the startup script & Bingo!

Got there in the end. Realised that the supplier had just removed the NewCS binary and config file from the DM500s.

Thanks for all your work on this jfish!

I have 2 questions:

1) Why have you chosen 343mhz on the card reader in newcs.xml? All other configs I have seen use 358mhz? Does it have any impact on the behavour?

2) in the newcamd.list, the CWS line, what's the last 2 settings? lan and newcs?

should I use "wan newcs" instead of "lan newcs" if I am connecting to the newcs server from the internet?

Thanks again for any help!

1 - not sure, think I read somplace sly white card run under this frequency better without any chance of burn out so set it to that, you can increase the frequency

2 - lan and newcs - lan is a label used for connection, as I am on a local area network I used lan, you can use any label you wish - the other settings newcs I used to match the settings in the newcs.xml file

I have now configured OSCam as a card server - still using MGCamd as client - web interface seems to be far better than newcs interface and OSCam is open source, therefore a new beta release is every few days

Cheers for clearing that up mate - I am getting a breakup of picture on the client using your settings, but the client is being run on a 3G dongle (no hardwired internet at location) how can i get to see the ecm times on a dm500s?

What are the main differences between newcs and oscam? Is it worth ditching newcs for?

I read somewhere that newcs isn't being developed anymore, is this true?

and wonder if you could clear this question up:

If I have A: 01 set in the client mg_cfg but don't have AU enabled in newcs for that user, could that be causing the picture break up?

if you have au set in mgcam but not in newcs, I assume mgcamd will try to send the emm to newcs which will reject them as the client is not allowed

I only allow one client to AU both on client and server.

Cheers for the reply mate.

Got it all working in a test environment and impressed with the small amount of data needed for it to work.

I even sent the data connection to 2G (not 3G) and it worked fine with no glitching at all.

I worked it out that if I wanted to watch a sports channel for a whole month (24/7) then it'll be just under 150MB of data - very impressed.

ECM times were around the 200ms using the cryptinfo plugin - is that ok?

ECM times on my local LAN is about 80ms and for a client outside of my LAN is about 150ms

With what's happened recently, should we ditch NewCS for OSCam? If so, will OSCam simply replace NewCS in your setup jfish?

Thanks for any advice...
