havent got mine yet, but from reviews theres no prorietary software on there, and it will take nearly any OS without problem, so choose your flavour and put it on.
its been confirmed working on

ubuntu
freebsd
freenas
centOS
windows server

so yeah, will work spot on for your needs, they reckon around £30 to £40 a year to run it, 24-7 on eleccy as well

exactly, i dont need one, but i bought one, at some point in the not too distant future a company i consult will be need a nic NAS / Server so i can play for a while, then sell at profit!!

ordered one of these a few days ago, when i seen it on hotukdeals. no idea how to get it up and running, but i will figure out. have managed to get a copy of windows server 2008r2 to go with it, just need to get a couple of 2tb drives for it now.

Just bought one as well...dont really need one lol..But will be a replacment for my current NAS.

Currently got an old P3 machine with 2x Maxtor 320gig drives.

you will save quite a bit on power usage.

Anyone got any suggestions on What hard drives to stick in this, I was thinking 2 x TB Samsung F3's they seem well priced or even 2 x 1GB Samsumg F3's.
Any benefit in upgrading the RAM ? it;s only going to used as a NAS so im guesisng RAM is not going to be much of an issue.

Well I have a sammy 1tb and a 2tb and would recommend either but the 2tb's are well priced compared to others so maybe thats the way to go - ill be looking for another 2tb soon

no. it can take normal desktop ddr3 also. i got 4gb on the way. might get it by the middle of january with the way the post is going just now

NAS box, media streamer (need to add a HD video card which can be done for around 30 quid). There are other options as well.
