Yay...finally received my delivery this morning.

I've just flashed the maximus now. I'm now just sorting some downloaded games into the correct folders on external hdd to test - and now trying to find the matching version of the backup manager to copy to the usb stick.

I take it the backup manager just needs to go to the root of the usb drive? Damn where did I put the old tutorials!!

I take it the backup manager just needs to go to the root of the usb drive? Damn where did I put the old tutorials!!

I put together a very basic guide if it helps?

------------------------------------------
Next Steps
So you’ve flashed your board with PSGroove, connected it to your PS3, and you have the ability to
run unsigned code.......what now??
What you need:
 A USB flash pen or hard drive formatted in fat32. Use something like guiformat to format
the drive, especially if it is a large size
http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm
 A copy of the stealth version of the Backup Manager
http://www.ps3hax.net/index.php?resources/396/
 An original game
Instructions:
1. Extract the files from the download Stealth PS3Hax Backup Manager
2. Copy the file “EU_stealth_PS3Hax_BackupManager.pkg” to the root of your USB pen or hard
drive. Obviously if you have a USA PS3, you need to use the USA backup manager 
3. With your PS3 jailbreaked, attach your USB pen or hard drive into one of the spare USB ports
on the PS3
4. If you go to the game menu on the PS3 XMB you will notice an option called “*Install
Package Files”. Select this option and you should see the BackupManager package listed.
Select it and it will install.
5. Once installed, you should now have the Backup Manager listed on the games menu.
Backing up games:
6. Select the Backup Manager from the games menu. The Backup Manager will load. Accept
the disclaimer. You should now have two options. X to load a game, and O to backup a
game
7. Put an original game in the PS3 drive
8. Select the backup option by clicking O.
9. It will now ask you whether you want to backup the game to an external drive. Select “yes”
or “no”.
10. If you select “no” to backing up a game to the external drive it will ask you if you want to
backup the game an internal drive. Again, you can select “yes” or “no”. That’s it!
Launching backup games:
11. You can now put any other original game in the PS3 and launch the backup manager.
12. You can select any other game that you’ve backed up from the Backup Manager menu and
load it using the X button. By selecting a game, the PS3 will go back to the XMB menu and
change your original game icon into the game you’ve just selected. Select the game from the
game menu in order to start it
Using downloaded games:
If you wish to save time and download games from the Internet, you need to create a folder on your
external hard drive called Gamez. Extract the downloaded games into this folder so that the folder
structure will be like this:
Gamez
BCES00141  GameID
PS3_GAME
PS3_UPDATE
PS3_DISC.SFB
The downloaded games will then appear in the list in Backup Manager

thanks - will read it in a mo - just about to stuff face.

However, first time it booted, it locked up with red light on....was only about 1 second between pressing power and eject.

2nd time, and I'm in.

I have install packages listed...but its not seeing my fat32 hdd for some reason by the looks of it.

Just copying the backupmanager now that I have to a small usb stick to at least get that installed.

Presuming I have the right version of backupmanager that is.....hopefully theres not umpteen different patched versions.

I'm guessing for now its probably that I have to make the partition active or something silly like that in easus that prob haven't done on this hdd

right - belly stuffed.

It installed the backupmanager fine from usb stick - so prob not set the partition to Active in easeus - think I had that issue on the wii before too - will check now.

I used the normal backup manager not the stealth one as seems to allegedly be some more compatability issues on the stealth and rx_managers.

It's now ripping Siren Blood Curse original to the internal hdd - crikey its slow to read lol....really hope that gets sorted soon.

Once thats done copying I'll test it out...then have a retry with my external hdd that has a load of games on.

Cheers for the guide though - looking at it now for the gamez structure bit.

If I remember rightly....you can rename the "BCES00141" etc folders to any game name you want as it then lists them by folder name order?

Also....am I right to think that I can actually remove the maximus now - and even in standby the ps3 will stay in the mode when I take it out of standby...and its only if I switch off at the wall that I need to redo it?

yup...partition status was set to none...so hopefully setting it to Active now will allow it to be read by the ps3.

Now just waiting for the game to finish....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

You can have any name you want. The PS3 reads the game name from files within that folder

I would assume so, but I just leave it plugged in

wicked - works a treat.

Setting the fat32 partition to Active sorted the external 2tb hdd issue.

Tried a few games out and no problems so far....with the exception of Infamous - a downloaded game - which was in French I think....but i'd read somewhere that someone else had that happen - allegedly backing up their own disc...so either he's bullshitting and did download a french release (like me) - or someone IIRC mentioned that can change a file to force it to be english - or something like that.

Will worry about that later though - now time to get my hdd tidied up a bit - as just had a boatload of games dumped on the hdd in random folders to clear them off pc hdd.

Good times!!

nice 1 mate glad ya got it sorted, iv ordered a maximus too, got no idea on delivery time yet probably end of september, can you post the backup manager you used thats compatible with the maximus, or any other bits of software you use, much appreciated!

okies - here's the backup manager I used.

Just extract it to the root of the USB stick and you should see it listed when you click "Install Packages" after running the maximus.

Hope you get it soon :)

as for Infamous - turns out even the retail Infamous european release could sometimes have issues allegedly causing it to run in the wrong language. A patch apparently fixed it - but obv we can't install patches at the moment. Though you can edit the files to make it english, I'm just going to dl the US release of it instead :) I do own Infamous - but its still in its shrinkwrap lol...so will keep it like that for selling on later. Plus it'd likely give the same issue

cheers fella thats great, has your game copied yet, iv read they take ages. also if you've got a file thats bigger than the 4gb that fat32 allows how are you copying them to your internal or external, are you using the ftp program to put them direct on the internal from your pc!

Backup Manager will ask you if you want to backup the game to the internal harddrive

Check the compatibility list first before backing up a game to see if there are any files that a > 4gb

Im waiting on my minimus from mod traders they started shipping today so hopefully it wont be much longer!

Hiya.

The game I was copying at first was Siren Blood Curse.

Not sure on exact time, as had the tv on for the kids and kept fllicking over, but that particular game took somewhere between 30mins to 1hour to transfer.

Plays no problems. Chose that game to try first as it had never been ran previously on that console so didn't have to worry about removing old data etc. I haven't attempted to copy anything to the external drive yet though, as when I'd started that, the external wasn't working due to Active mode not being set by me.

I've tried about 6 games out briefly (that are fine for Fat32) from external and they are no problem. As for the 4gb+ games, I've still got them rarred up at the mo on the external drive, so I'll have to extract them onto the pc, and then ftp them across....bit of a pain but at least theres not too many of them.

IIRC that if you do attempt to copy a game that has 4gb+files then at the end of the copy you're given some error message code which indicates that may have an issue with it...but I think, for those few originals I'm goingto rip, I'll rip to the internal hdd first, and then ftp across - as then less likely to have any issues and probably faster too once taken to account the ridiculously slow transfer time to external.

Got called out for work (how inconsiderate!!) so haven't had much time since to mess about - now just waiting to get kids away from telly and have another play :)

use file manager 0.3 i find its easier to use

I take it though you won't be able to use the File Manager 0.3 to transfer the 4gb+ files, as can't get them to the fat32 drive in the first place. If they can't ever add ntfs support then I suppose rar/zip support would be a decent workaround in meantime.

Can you actually rip a game direct off bluray to hdd using the File Manager?

downside to that though is I believe it has no sort of progress bar yet

Comgenie's Awesome Filemanager v0.04

* Note: You still can't play games with >4GB files from the external directly since those files are splitted! But now you can at least backup and restore them. (Ofcourse, games without >4GB files still works directly on external)

ooh a new version.

Whats the main differences to 0.3?

Don't quite get that description? 4gb+ files are split somehow? Or does it actually have ntfs support somehow?

no matter found it :)

Update in 0.04
- Fix for different (SD) screens (bigger text on lower resolutions). Now the top bar is visible and text is always readable
- Added a copying progress text (which also fixed the hanging!)
- Added retrying on I/O errors while copying
- Added an about text
- Fixed several other minor bugs

soooo....no ntfs support - would have been good for split partitions if it was. oh well.

Still dont get that about the 4gb files being split? surely the file simply wouldn't be copied at all....or the file would just end at exactly 4gb size meaning missing data. So still have no option but to ftp those larger games across :(

aah I see now

How to >4GB file backupping
In version 0.03, All files/folders copied from the internal disk (like /dev_hdd0/game/LAUN12345/GAMEZ/)
to the external disk (/dev_usb .. ) which are larger than 4GB will be splitted in multiple parts.
When copying the files back from external to internal, those files will be merged again.

bit reluctant to start messing with the files in that sense though, changing them to a split format or whatever that may lose support or lead to corruption.

Also...still only work if game is already on internal...not if its sat on pc or ntfs external drive...so would have to ftp it to internal, and then internal over to the connected external
