Mini Tut For Hacking the "MyGuide 3100" by Convert
Sandman asked...."what advantage does the Tomtom hack have?"
It's preference, My wife, mother in law, sister and a friend have the MyGuide 3100, there are two types out there. The slightly older version runs the software (Maps for Myguide) from a memory card, the newer one (Looks identical) runs it from internal memory.
So the Hack is slightly different.
For the older one (You will have a 256Mb SD Card in the box when you buy it)
Buy a 1Gb SD Card, Copy all the files from the orignal SD Card that came with your MyGuide to your new SD Card then replace the ADDONS.TXT file I have uploaded here on the card, the 256 isn't big enough for both TomTom and iGo (Myguide), well not the version of TT6 I have anyway. You Have an original copy of ADDONS.TXT on the original SD Card so if something goes wrong just copy that back and start again.
For the newer version (has 512Mb of memory built in hence no SD card supplied but I couldn't get TomTom 6 and the Maps I needed onto the "Flash Disk Area" so I resorted to a 1Gb SD Card I already had spare maybe it'll run on a 512Mb card? I haven't got one to check it, but 1Gb are cheap as chips at the moment), replace the IGOPATH.TXT with the one I have uploaded (BUT before you do make a copy of your old IGOPATH.TXT somewhere safe in case you screw something up). I think it is in the \FLASHDISK\ folder. There aren't many folders so don't worry, you'll find it easily enough.
How do you do this? You need Microsoft active sync from here.

MyGuide runs on Windows CE Core V5, so you will be able to "Browse" the MyGuide as if it were an attached drive. You can't edit any files directly on the MyGuide, you need to copy them using Active Sync to your PC, edit them and copy them back.
Once you have done this Press the Reset button on the back of the MyGuide for a couple of seconds and it will reboot and load the new ADDONS.TXT/IGOPATH.TXT settings. It should work exactly as it did before (because we haven't done the TT stuff yet) as long as it's all working as before you haven't screwed anything up (If you are running the newer internal 512Mb version you will probably need to put in an SD card with a directory called Navigator and the tomtom_logo.bmp file in it as I think it looks for that straight away.
Now you need to load TT6 onto your SD Card Find a Copy of TT6 (You know what I mean) then copy it to your SD Card, then get the maps you require and make sure they are on the root of the SD card. TomTom won't see maps that aren't on the root (In their own folder of course), DON'T Change the name of the folder the Maps come in, each version will have it's own directory name and TOMTOM will look for a specific directory name. If TomTom reports no maps then the name of the folder you have used for the Maps is wrong or the directory is not on the root of the card).
Now you have to save the tomtom_logo.bmp logo into the \Navigator directory IE the TomToms Navigator directory where most of the tt6 files are (Or the MyGuide will Fail when it tries to create a button for the TT6 option it won't find the logo and you will get an error msg). "Reset the Myguide" on the back there is a reset button, push it in for a couple of seconds, it will reboot and you will see three options next time you boot
One for Navigate (Myguide branded iGo)
One for TomTom 6
One for configuration.
Start TomTom and now set the GPS settings (Configure GPS) to ...
'other nmea gps receiver', baud rate 4800, COM7
Happy Christmas everybody !!
