how do I change them and what is the path..

please help

thanks

On DW v1.6.5 you can change them. More info here.

On most other images, i.e. Gemini, PLi, etc. they will probably be standard.

The boot image is stored in /root/platform/kernel and is called bild.
If you can set your ftp clients default path to /root/platform/kernel you should be able to overwrite the bild file with your own.

Here's a guide written by fergy for creating a bild file.

#1 Download TMPGEnc from official site
#2 Unzip the file to your chosen destination.
#3 Double click the 'TPMGEnc.exe MPEG Encoder' file and click 'OK' on the small pop up window and then click 'Cancel' on the 'Project Wizard (1/5)' window that appears.
#4 Next screen, bottom right...'Stream type', check the box 'ES (Video only)'.
#5 Next, bottom left...'Video source:' click on 'Browse' and select the background/photo that you want as your new boot logo for the Dreambox.
#6 Next, bottom left... 'Output file name:' click on browse and choose the path for your finished 'new' boot background/photo and edit the name to 'bild' (minus the '....' and in lower case) ie: the line that apperars in the 'Output file name:' should read similar to C:\Documents and Settings\Whatever\My Documents\bild ( the actual name of the photo does NOT appear).
#7 Next, bottom right...click on 'Setting' and check that the value settings are:

.....'Stream type:' = MPEG-1 Video
.....'Size' = 720 x576 pixels
.....'Aspect ratio:' = 1:1 (VGA)
.....'Frame rate:' = 25 fps
.....'Rate control mode:' = Constant bitrate (CBR)
.....'Bitrate:' = 12000
.....'Motion search precision:' = Normal

When checked, click 'OK' to exit the screen.

#8 Top left click 'Start', if all is goes well, the '100%' bar appears and your completed 'bild' file is to be found in your chosen 'Output...' location.

You can also use Tuxbox LogoViewer. Load in your jpg, save it as a .m1v file and then simply rename it as bild and upload to box.

Never tried either of these methods so sure how it will go.

Thanks bigman you are a star.. really liked the DW 2.0 and wish I could change on it..

btw, just curios, how come it can be changed on DW 2.0 ?

cheers again

The boot and shutdown logos are stored in /bin which is read only.

This was to save space in /var for addons. You know how limited it is in there for space and the pictures could be easily moved.

On 1.6.5, they're in /var/bin which is read-write.

sorry another thing.. what program do I use to go to /var/bin/..

I always use dreamup to flssh the box and not fond of telnet or ftp

I do have flash thingee and can connect the box using my router.. please advise next,,

Use an ftp client like FlashFXP.

For FTP
URL - ip address of box
Username - root
Password - dreambox
Port - 21

cheers.. I can go upto this point.. how to I access the path /var/bin/

sorry If Im being thick mate..

appreciate your help..

When it connects to the box, you will see a list of folders.

Double click on var
Double click on bin

It's like a normal windows explorer window.

If it connects and there's a blank screen, click on the 'up a folder' icon.

magic it now says that the 30 day trial has finished and askin me to buy it.. is there anyway of hacking it or the serial number ??

Yep, a normal serial or keygen website will have them.

It doesn't really matter, it will still continue to work as normal, just click ok or whatever to get rid of the window and you can still use it.
