I dont know if its even possible but I have 2 Comps one upstair and one
downstair and one Printer,
I want to put the printer out the way so that its not connected to either but
be able to print from both computers wirelessly,
if its pos what hardware am I looking for
thanx

If I assume that you already have some type of network, that links the 2x PCs together, then it is simply a matter of deciding which one is best to connect a printer to, then share it using standard windows networking.
No extra kit required.

If you dont have an existing network, you need one of these first else the printer will just float. (carried between PCs)

EDIT/Update:

If I had read your question, I would have given you a different answer, sorrry ignore the above.

Yes, a wireless print server or a long ethernet cable to the nearest PC and use windows networking.

What sort of wireless router and printer have you got? I've got my usb printer connected to an asus-wl500g, which I've reflashed with OpenWRT. It then acts as both my router and a print server. Obviously you need a usb port on the router for this.

If you've got an ethernet port on the printer, maybe a wireless bridge would work.

but then maybe a wireless printer might be needed...

Yep I'm cable, forgot to mention that both comps have their own modem if that
makes a difference,
so anyway do I need both the above,
still not sure,

if you are going to keep the modems and not use the router there is no need for a router.

So you will just need a wired print server not wireless.

unless you are wanting to go wireless you will then need the router.....

I would ditch one of the modems and run both via the router and modem.

So both PC's to the router, with 1 modem:)

we use a Lexmark wireless printer,Desktop (on card) + 2 laptops all configured to use wireless printer and works great.

the most elegant way, but not the cheapest is to buy 3x homeplug units, which will form a 3 node lan with one pc acting as a dhcp server and the printer shared by all.

There is a USB version operating at a claimed 14mbps uses the devices USB ports and the house wiring to form the lan. These are made by pacakard bell and are called net2plug. cheap as chips on ebay. I have a pair here, but you need three.

It's a cable router, and looks fairly good. I'd be surprised if you can get the equivalent any cheaper. There's a brief review here, and plenty more if you google it. I think it should fulfill your needs.

Got the Edimax Router but still waiting on my wireless dongles,
but not liking it tho ,
it look to me like the printer has to be plugged into
one of the usb ports on the router and I want to be totally wireless,
unless I've read it wrong,
so if I'm right do I still need to get a wireless print server

You'll need to plug the printer into the router. The router IS the print server though. You don't need a seperate one. I'm not sure how 'wireless' you expected it to be?

Like I said in my first post , I want to put the printer out of the way so that it is not physically connected to either PC

Okay, but it's got to be connected to the wireless router. You can stick them both in a cupboard, and then connect to the printer from your PCs wirelessly.

Thanks for that, I had it in my head that the router had to be connected to
the PC,
Its all starting to make some sense
