New sunray version of VU+solo2 receiver.

Okey, thanks.
I went vorried because it had an sticker on the box saying that I should use modified images.

Now AT THIS MOMENT you can use Original and latest images on the Sunray box...But we dont know for long...I would reccomend you to instll this image, and dont do a online up!...On the site whats on the sticker there isnt mutch images, due the fact that isnt needed now!

That's just to be cautious and try and prevent (as much as possible) a clone bomb but as @dirkjan73 has said there isn't much in way of images as there isn't a need for any at this moment.

Hi which measurement are you taking, the sensor or the hdd temp? Mine is at 51c in standby and 58c according to the sensors and between 42c and 48c for the hard drive. I have the hdd installed inside in the box so I am confused as why there is a big difference in temperature. I plan to install a big fan as well

Hi Gav,

Sorry, mine's a Lonrisun box. Just unbelievable how they couldn't lower these temps to a similar level. My initial temp was wrong, its been on for a few days now and the temp is 28c. Still half of what some are getting though.

Where about is the temp sensor on these Sunray clones?

I've had this on along with an original $ky HD box and after about 5 minutes the temp as reported by FanControl is 49 but using an Infrared/laser thermometer, the temp coming from top of box is around 32. The original $ky HD box reports around same temp (give/take a degree or two).

Thank u BBBUK i have said this earlier, you CANT trust the temp on the Sunray, because its ridicolous, when theres on TOP of the CPU there is a good fan and when u measure it,its shows over 55c!!!

What i personaly think is,that plugins and inbuild fan controls, are measuring a certain area of the mainboard, and i have the feeling this area is near where on the Genuine and lonrisun the fans are placed, and as we know the fan on the Sunray ISNT on that area, thats why he gets a totaly different measure....

I realy, realy.realy dont believe that the Chinese would have made a mistake like that, especially for the Sunray, where you get 2 years warranty instead of 1 year!

I think the temp sensor is there in front of the jtag connection, just above the processor. I have seen hundreds of times pc motherboards showing wrong temperatures and being fixed/corrected with new firmware/bios. Other thing could be that the processor fan blows the heat from the processor to the sensor, while the lonrinsun box has the casing fan sucking the heat from the processor, away from the sensor. Both boxes should have the same processor, giving out same amount of heat. Seems the sunray just lacks air circulation. The processor is being "cooled" with the same hot air as he expels.

Thank u PM,this could be likely true, with every day i am beginning to have more doubts about there should be a heating problem with the Sunray...I have "accidently" owned a one,but i sold it again after testing,my had a max heat of 47c with the fan full speed and making a little bit noise...But i dont think that the owners should worry about it,like u pointed they producing the same heat as the Lonrisun but the blow direction is different..

Ok just done more testing. Took top cover off and left box for over 10mins and the temp hovered, according to FanControl, around 43 (normally 49 with cover on).

With the cover off, I tested temp using infrared thermometer again and temp coming from HDD and around fan, heatsink and immediate surrounding area of fan/heatsink I got around 33 (bear in mind FanControl reported 43 during this time).

I checked temp around the area indicated by pmadison as possible temp sensor and it was around 35.

I checked the rest of the board for any temp that was closest to the temp reported by FanControl (ie 43) and the closest area was what I have circled in white which appears to be the back capacitor and the things immediately behind this capacitor (ie towards back of box) which had a temp of around 42.

Therefore, and at a guess, the temp sensor maybe at the back of this capacitor and it is possibly picking up the heat from the this capacitor. If I'm correct then maybe the temp sensor has been placed in a stupid location along with fact that there is no fan extracting heat from the box.

Therefore, I can relax knowing that temp of the CPU/heatsink/HDD is around 10 degrees lower than reported by FanControl.

It would be interesting to see if the area I highlighted is around same temp as reported by FanControl on the normal/lonrison clones!!

I would like to add that the above temperatures were based on slightly modified Sunray setup as it now has a slightly bigger fan than the default one supplied; and I had to cut and connect new (bigger) fan to old existing fan connector in the Sunray as connectors are different.

I have a Sunray Solo2 clone and is running Apollo 19.

I've read that from 25+ there is a change in kernel that requires new drivers.

I'm therefore wondering if anyone with a Sunray has upgraded to Apollo 25 or higher without any problems with clone bomb.

Hello, has someone pour one for this software with the Sunray solo2, for the service USB? If I it with the computer do not transfer he identified as v.1.0 bootloader Sunray but I have more at software bootloader too flash. Sunray with requests sent me to Dream....em but I can not find anything there.

My solo2 clone bombed after an update altho the drivers were ment to be write protected, update was from 15 to 21 and was fine, then i done another update from 21 to 29 and it bricked had to replace flash

Where these Sunray solo2 (version 2)?

I have the Sunray Solo2 (v2) and I'm running vix 24 original image without a problem.

From Vix 25 onwards there was a new Kernel and driver introduced.

I tried flashing with 25+ and all that happens is that sunray refuses to boot fully after flashing if ethernet cable is inserted. I disconnect the ethernet cable and box boots fine without any problems except obviously date/time not been set due to lack of ethernet cable needed to sync/update date/time.

I believe this to be the sunray anti-clone measure by refusing to fully boot with ethernet cable inserted on vix 25+. On any version prior to 25, I've never had any issues with flashing/booting or anything for that matter.

I have problem with my solo2.
HW error it says, no matter what image I try on usb stick.

Can anyone tell me how to know if it's really a HW error or if it can be fixed thru software update?
I saw some videos on youtube, guiding videos how to change some chip on the motherboard.
For me it seams more easy to fix thru software.

Is your Solo2 a Sunray clone?

Sunray clones will have sticker on top stating visting dreamoem and/or sunray hologram on back of box as well as mini usb port labelled "service".
