Hi,my mrs accidently deleted 4.8e so iam trying to add 4.8e. i ticked the 4.8 sat in the list and it says its searching but its just keeps scanning 0.8w .i have followed the instuctions exactly to the manual. i then tried adding from these instructions - Press Menu
Installation
Press OK
Satellite Setup
Press OK
Satellite
Press OK
Drop-down box appears
Scroll down to an empty (0.0E) satellite position
Press OK
Press Green
Use on-screen keyboard to name new satellite position
Press Exit
Press Yellow to save new satellite position
Press Exit
Scroll down to Motorized Setting
Press OK
Scroll down to DiSEqC Motor
Press OK
Drop-down box appears
Select USALS (unless you already use this system)
Scroll down to Sat Degree
Enter new East or West (degrees) position
Press Exit
Select Yes to Settings were changed - Do you want to save?
Go back into Motorized Setting
Change USALS back to DiSEqC Motor 1.2 (if you do not use USALS)
Press Exit
Select Yes to Settings were changed - Do you want to save?
Exit all menus

- same result, its scanning 0.8w again. its driving me mad. i saved a cndf file a few months ago. would this be of any use for restoring the sat. any ideas please ??

You are following the procedure okay.

Sometimes 5402 does have a mind of its own.Probably because there are no transponders/ channels stored its going to its last sat position.

A new channel list sounds like the way forward. There is a list in d/load posted by Ferret made by William 1

Which is usuals settings, easy enough to change to disecq.

i uploaded my cndf that i made before the incident. no change. still wont go onto 4.8 e. ive tried everything i can think of. saving up for a dm800hd. i have had too many problems with 5402. especially the stuttering hd recording . not a happy bunny

Sorry to see this.

Only thing now to be sure is factory reset, s/ware, channel list writing normal first, then default, then s/cam.

Have to say im thinking along those lines myself now, just had it also with my m2 version. After reading the very many threads here on the subject.

spoke to tm support,iv done it now. they say its always best to use usals cos disqeq 1.2 isnt very reliable.spoke with phantom aswell, testing new patch 0.32p at moment.he thinks hes sorted the hd recording out, will report back. Download center

pleased to say patch 0.32p is working great, hd recordings and all pvr issues have gone, everything opens up quickly so I think that's me finally sorted. nice 1 phantom

Glad your sorted m8.

Lets hope Phantom has ironed out the glitches that were present in both the m1 and m2 versions.

I hope it is resolved for all users as the 5402 series is a really good Stb.

But my feeling is there will have to be a m3 at some point to fix all issues. Just my personal view.

Happy hunting .

All the best. jamsb.

by the sounds of it the m2 is plagued by problems, i don't think there is anything else to do on m1, I get every channel I want and all stable, apart from upc which is going fast anyway, blind scan is working fine, box doesn't crash anymore, I would say if anything needs doing, the epg needs more than now and next and needs to save in the flash memory cos you have to reload it when you switch it back on, but apart from that I am finally happy with it. its just a pity that tm release boxes that are well made but with poor quality software, we the customers just want a box that does what it claims to do. phantom really needs to test the patches more, as it was phantom who designed the box and writes all the hardware and software, it would make his life easier if he just got the patch right in the 1st place, then he wouldn't need to constantly release a new patch.

That sounds very positive for the M1 user side of things. That pleases me greatly.

For M2 i still think s/ware revision wont cure the ills.

I never knew Phantom designed the latest m1 and m2 Stbs.

The issues of hardware / s/ware , well i worry for that. You are absolutely correct in that tests should have been rigorous prior to release.

We are where we are, lets hope m2 can be fixed as we would all want it to be also. Still i think m3 will come??

All the best. jamsb.

Must admit I'm GOBSMACKED our colleague believes he has spoken to one of the MULTITUDE of Phantoms!! lol!!
Well done mate, that really MUST be a first!!:drink:

M3 would need to be a total software rewrite to eliminate the Blind Scan glitch of 45,000 symbol rate but they never did this with M2 ?

I think our best hopes of a better Enthusiasts Satellite Receiver from Technomate would be a combination of the TM5302HD Blind Scan with the TM5402HD file system.

Hello Merlin,

Sounds like the best way forward.

Do you think they would go that route?

Blind Search for me is vital as its the part of the hobby i really enjoy.

Seems strange given the ability of our old friend the Tm 1500 we wind up with defective model. I always thought TM 5402 was successor to 1500.How did it happen?

How could they get it so wrong.

Still i really enjoy my m2 and it would be good if something positive like you suggest could happen.

Happy Hunting.

I made several calls to tm about 5402 box issues, they put me on to Richard in support, I had a long chat with him and a bit of an argument, he told me that I was wrong,he said "I designed the build of the box and wrote the software and the patches so I know what iam on about " . afterwards, after testing the patch, he agreed that there was a problem with hd recording. he said, give me a few days and il get back to you. a week later he rang me and and told me to try new patch posted in tm community forum. patch solved the problem, posted by phantom. so basically I think that it was a fair assumption that I had spoken to phantom. quite frankly, I don't care if it was him or if he was lying, I got the patch re written and I have no problems at all now so iam happy

The main cause of the current errors in the software of the TM5402HD M1 & M2 are due to patch work software being added, had the original build included these enhancements there would not be a problem as the original writer of this program would have known what to do so the software needs to be re-written from scratch to eliminate the errors by an experienced software complier,

As there seems to be no interest in doing this from the Korean factory where this software came from & they went on to produce several other stb's such as DrHD & Blade 7000s ect ect with this Blind Scan error in the software with no attempt to correct by the originator, current attempts have failed due to lack of support to the likes of the Phantom this team does it’s best with little or no support from Korea,

Had this been the attitude with the TM1000 /TM1500 Super+ they would never had sold as many units as they did but as luck would have it they did get it right the 1st time with the TM1500 Super,

The current complacency is due to market forces giving priority to other aspects of the satellite receiver range & sad to say the Blind Scan is just add on software that works if your luck is in or not as with some of the current upgrades of the non Linux range,

Luckily we do have the TM5302HD due to other owners this satellite receiver & myself continually providing feedback to TM on the latest software that we did get there in the end after 18 months,

So it may look bleak at the moment but things are about to change big time with Ultra HD 4k & higher compression technics such as ACM/VCM Multi Stream 8APSK 16APSK 32APSK ect ect so a new batch of satellite receivers is on the horizon with better software build to protect the receivers normal functions such as DiSEqC USALS & Blind Scan,

Hello , William1,

Many thanks for your detailed reply.

It is a bit of a bind for Phantom and owners given your reply. However we are where we are.We keep trying to get improvements made.

I was reading about the Ultra HD 4k and higher just the other day, which will pave the way for feed hunters in just about every way.

If Tm. go that route , i truly hope they test rigorously before release.

Happy Hunting.

Out of interest, which patch 'cured' the recording problems? I thought the judder was due to my cheap-ish 32GB memory stick. I'm on 128P.

Yes mate 'which' patch please - espec after you spoke to TM/Richard/Phantom!! lol!!

patch 0.32p (aug 2nd). hd recordings are perfect now

Thanks @Tiernan. Just realised your issue is with the M2, but good to know it's sorted and that TM do listen, albeit eventually.

My M1 is now using patch 133p. It will happily record 2 HD channels simultaneously on the same cheap-ish 32GB stick.

no, sorry, I have the m1, I wouldn't go near the m2 ! the exact problem was that generally hd recordings are ok, for movies etc, but if you record something with fast moving images like formula 1 then you will notice that it keeps jumping every 30 seconds or so, try recording some f1 racing in hd and youll see exactly what I mean, very jumpy.which is why I had to speak to tm and give them feedback, they noticed it aswell so hopefully it shouldn't happen on future patches for m1 or m2
