Quick question, is this a safety feature to stop people falling out or to prevent car-jacking? Heaven forbid your car's in a smash but if so it could be beneficial to have the doors unlocked. Just a thought.

basically, it works once per journey, after that you have to do it manually. And in the event of an accident, the airbag system will unlock the doors automatically, so you don't need to worry about that aspect.

a mk2 falls under the 1998 - 2005 range aswell as i have a 2003 focus and its under mk2
mk1 is 1998 to 2002
Sorry mate, this is a common error by parts dealers and non-ford sellers.
If you have a 2003 then you have the facelift model of the Mk1 (aka Mk1.5)
The Mk2 was released in 2005 (the Mk2) and this has recently been "facelifted" too with the latest model being a Mk2.5.
