very glad the police, however faulty their information is, are doing their job! if we have to have sub normal morons, claiming to be "gods worriers" running around our country trying to kill its citizens, don't you think its fair that the response is tough, and based on safety first? i would , personally, rather have to clean my underpants, than take up a new occupation as daisy manure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you but it would be nice if they stopped shooting and arresting innocent people would it not ?

AGAIN, what did this man do wrong?

He was black and carrying a rucksack he should have use a sainsburys bag for life.

Come on this all stems from 7/7 and what's the date of this incident, Lets face it they were not white guys who were the suicide bombers on 7/7

my point was the police were acting on what they thought was reliable information,if they been informed theres someone in a public place who could be a threat to public safety then they should respond accordingly

its not as scary as you may think it is,and if you do as your told and haven't actually done anything wrong then theres nothing to fear

but again why is the police doing there job newsworthy

Because it's as rare as dodo shit

Agree with the police action, so they got the wrong guy but were in a take no chances world now what with the current climate etc etc.

it was a case of mistaken identity, this story was in our local paper

DORSET Police are to investigate how an innocent man was pinned down by firearms officers after an incident in Basingstoke.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has decided that an investigation into the incident at Bournemouth Train Station on Saturday will be handled by Dorset officers.

Hampshire Constabulary, British Transport Police and Dorset Police were all involved, following reports that a man was threatened with an imitation firearm in Festival Place shopping centre in Basingstoke during office hours on Saturday.

Acting on the description released by Hampshire Constabulary, armed officers from Dorset Police swooped on a 21-year-old black man, just before 6pm, at Bournemouth train station.

The man was taken to Bournemouth police station, but it quickly became clear it was a case of mistaken identity and he was released immediately.

The IPCC received a referral from Dorset Police on Sunday and decided yesterday that the matter could be dealt with locally.

As the investigation will cover three police forces it will be carried out under the supervision of the IPCC.

The IPCC has discussed this with all three forces and has agreed that Dorset Police's professional standards department will take the lead in the investigation.

So it was not terrorist related after all?

They knew it was a person with a fake gun they were looking for, so why the heavy handed cavalry?

Another case of PC gone mad!!

Yeah send someone round and find who did this toy gun incident, but to take the action they did over a toy gun is insane, AND, what is even more insane they disrupted an innocent persons life because of a toy fucking gun, they got the wrong poerson!!!!? Possibly mentally scarring him for life!!!

This country is well and truly fucked up!!

If it was a terrorist incident they would have just left it for the next 6 months so they can gather more intelligence, by which time the person would have probably blown himself and loads of innocents up!!

Total BS way in which this system works!!

A toy gun FFS, what next?

it must have been quite terrifying for the guy.

What more scary is that the police must have been acting on intelligence - where is the real target?

well id have thought they were acting on stupidity myself

you can't beat a carry bag for safety these days, London Evening Stanadrd has been giving away free rucksack bags (has evening standard logo on) with the paper for the last 3 tuesdays.

The Police get it wrong again, its not only Americans that can blame G Bush for all the problems they incur. if he hadnt started all this that man could have went about his day like normal people are susposed to do

I hope he sues there asses.

I only hope that the information that they get on terrorist is a bit more exact rather than a coloured man with a backpack.

I noticed that, couldn't help laugh at the irony of giving free rucksacks away at the entrance of tube stations

imagine a person reporting someone as acting suspicious at a main line station - they have a rucksack with an evening standard logo

you'll end up with 200 people on the deck

:roflmao: I think you will find that Bin Laden started this not Bush

Anyone want to point me to time when anybody got it right all the time, let alone the police?

I take someone threatening people with a replica gun very serious. So to be careful they go in armed, and take a suspect to the ground. The suspect was innocent and they released him.

If a guy had beaten up a grannie with a replica gun a week after the incident being reported people would be whinging that the police had not done enough.

It's a thankless job.

I on the other hand do thank the jobbing police officer for the good work they do.
