two big boxing fights coming up shortly;
Clinton Woods vs Tarver this weekend
Joe Calzaghe vs Bernard Hopkins next weekend

I think both the british lads will do the job, what do you think?

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :)

I am with you on that 100% my mate, come on he Brits ;)
:Clap::Clap::Clap::

I'm a life long boxing fan, and am going to get ripped for this. But in my opinion both are over rated (british boxers). Mostly due to the fact, they are now fighting in an environment where there are simply no more world class fighters.

The era of boxing is passing, and people are merely clinging on to average joes who look good in an unfortunately dying sport. Calzaghe has done well, after avoiding tough fights and then taking then on past their sell by date, good boxers yes. World class nope.

I wouldn't exactly say Jeff Lacy was past his sell by date when Calzaghe hammered him.

Calazaghe is a great fighter in his own right and although his division is slightly on the weak side, cant really take anything away from him.......and I hope Tarver gets knocked the F*out, he ruined Rocky 6 for me :p

To be able to name one boxer out of all his fights, isnt a great feat mate. Its only my opinion, but he keeps the british public humoured so fair play. Just dont think he can go down as a boxing great. Everyone else may see it differently.

I think the Rocky with the droopy man breasts kind of killed it for me, straight after the non oscar winning performance from Tarver.

I just think its unfortunate that our best fighters have to move up a division to get the best fights, when most boxers are big fight dodgers.

He wouldn't put him down with the all-time greats like Ali, Frazier, Roberto Duran etc etc, but no-one can take anything away from his undefeated record. I look forward to his next fight.

...and then a few weeks after in May, we've got the pleasure of having Joan Guzman over in the UK when he comes over to fight Alex Arthur... a certain Guzman win for my money.

Plus theres another decent looking fight this weekend - Alfonso Gomez in with Cotto. Gotta admit at first I was kinda dismissive of Gomez coz he was off 'The Contender' but the guy is the truth... he ended Gatti's career and I'd back him to mash up Cotto this weekend as well.

Anyway sorry 4 going off topic!! re: the 2 fights u mentioned, I think Woods vs Tarver might be pretty close to call...

If Tarver is allowed to box then I think he'll take it. If Woods can get in there with a high workrate, rough him up and constantly pressure Tarver then I think he'll take it - hope he gets a ref that lets him work.

But Woods will really need to dominate and keep the workrate up, he's fighting in Tarver's backyard so he don't want it to go to the scorecards.

Calzaghe vs Hopkins... really looking forward to this one - a sure Calzaghe win for me. Then I'm guessing Joe will take Roy Jones up on his offer, have that fight in Cardiff and then call it a day.

a big Calzaghe fan looking for him to win by KO in 3rd or 4th round

gargemel gomez to mash up cotto,YOUR HAVING A LAUGH , gatti was a oldman most fighters would beat him at that age

Aamir khan needs a title shot! Although he faced his toughest apponent last time, i think the promoter needs to get him in the ring with the big boys now.

yeah i hear ya mate - ok so we both know cotto is unbeaten, true class and hits like a f*ckin truck but theres something about gomez recently and the way he grafts which makes me think that it aint gonna be a walkover for cotto and it might throw up a surprise.

catch u up on monday when one of us will be able to say "i told you so!!" to the other... probably you saying it to me, but we'll see! lol

my call is tarver,though i hope woods kicks his butt;the Xecutioner(my favourite fighter with Evander"why he have to bite me in my ear?"holyfield over the past decade or so) to do J.c.,though i hope not as i like the way he slaps people into submission("ouch my hands!").and i do like gomez,defo,but cotto is too good.
what about AH RICKEH,do you think he could handle him?
:Cheers:

After watching clips of the champ at his weight Nate Campbell, there is no doubt Amir will probably knock that twat out as he is nothing short of abysmal. But where after that, there is no one in his division worth fighting, which is the same across the board. I'm not a big Amir Khan fan, as I dont get on anyones bandwagon until they have actually proven something, especially if they are British, as we are always guilty of building up anyone who has the remote bit of skill in any sport.

Frank Warren is fully aware, that amir will have a lack of opponents if he takes the title too early so will sponge it for as long as he can.

sorry dude, have to go with cotto also but dont expect it to be easy in any way. I actually watched the first season of contender, and always thought Gomez looked to be a right little grafter who would be hard to take down after he had some decent training. Think he is out his depth in this one but guess we will have to see.

Yeh warren is just in it to make the quick buck, he will probably have another win in June before it hits the promoter that hes capable of bigger and better things.

lol yeah for a champ, Campbell is shockingly average aint he mate?!

Apart from Khan, Katsidis is the only fighter in that division who I check for. My ideal would be Khan takes the WBO belt and then Katsidis gets to go at him (but would Team Khan wanna take that fight? Katsidis fights tend to be hard bloody wars - remember him vs Graham Earle - they might not want the golden boy going in with someone like him).

Lightweight just aint a division with many good fights in it is it?! I wonder if in a few years Khan could beef up a bit more and make a decent junior welter?

Much more money to be made in that weight class... and hes already said he wants to retire young, so hes gotta try and make as much as poss while he can.
