Just found this m8

Xtraview was a pay-per-view channel run by Top Up TV on British Digital Terrestrial Television. It ceased broadcasting on August 31 2005 due to lack of space on the DTT platform after Channel 4 took their space on Mux 2 back from Top Up TV when the lease expired in September 2005. The official reason stated on the channel is that it is being "modified", however no developments were made and this screen was shown from its demise to March 2006. It showed a selection of programs from the Top Up TV package, switched on a scheduled basis.

No viewing card was required. Instead, access to the channel was granted by calling a premium rate telephone number. During the call users were asked to enter a PIN number displayed on screen, in response they were given another PIN to unlock the service. The service was provided for one pound per day.

Unlike Top Up TV's main package, Xtraview did not use a true encryption system. Instead the PIN Screen was a simple MHEG Application that directs the user's set-top box to a hidden videostream broadcast in the clear. The MHEG PIN system is still in use on the Red Hot TV porn channel and Scottish Premier League PPV services provided by Top Up TV.

The PIN system has been subject to widespread hacking. Without encryption the system is easily circumvented by Set top boxes that can access indiviual videostreams by entering the stream PID. More recently the PIN algorithm itself was cracked allowing others to access the service.

Top Up TV Pay As You Go may be replacing Xtraview. Here the user purchases a prepay card (like a mobile phone topup) which is inserted into the set top box. Cards will cost £24 each and allow 12 days viewing. Unlike the original Xtraview system this provides access to the main Top Up TV Service rather than a small selection. As it is accessing the an encrypted service it requires a set top box with smart card slot.

The channel's placeholder remained on the line-up from its closure in August 2005 to March 13, 2006 when it was removed, and the Top Up TV Active channel was launched on channel 107, informing people how to subscribe to the service.
