ITV's The X Factor was the most successful interactive TV show of 2004 with 22 million votes cast during the series. Some 8.5 million votes were cast during the two-hour live grand finale, with 157,000 calls being made during a single minute of the penultimate episode. Viewers were able to vote via premium rate phone lines, SMS and via the red button on digital satellite.
