How can I tell wot speed I'm connected to the internet at?

cheers

download a speed test mate do a search on google for speedtest

rutters, since you are using a ntlhome modem you can log into http://192.168.100.1 (user: root, pass: root) and check the Operation Configuration page.

If your running on a 1 meg service you'll see:

Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 1024000 bps
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 256000 bps

or a 600k would be:

Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 600000 bps
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 128000 bps

a 150k would be: Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 150000 bps
I'm not sure what the Maximum Upstream Data Rate is on this service tho. (and I cant be arsed to change my mac to find out atm. lol)

cheers m8, but it wont let me connect to that site..
says 'internal error - server connection terminated'

any ideas?

It isn't a site as such, it is the address of the modem on the LAN side.

Out of curiosity, go to:

Start > Control Panel > Network Connections

Right Click on your connection and click 'Status'.

In the window that appears click the 'Support' tab.

It will have something like:

Address Type: Assigned by DHCP
IP Address: 192.168.100.2

Or at least something similar.

This is to make sure you were trying the right IP address to connect to it.

heres a few to try
