Hi all
Bought a Compaq Armada 1750 for the kids.
Need to reboot.
Got a 95 boot CD and floppy however I am getting a message stating 'This system may not be setup to use the CD rom. Please contact your PC manufacturer if setup does not start automatically. Press any key to continue...
I have tried changing the boot options and enabled multi boot, changed the settings but no luck.
The CD shows all the files but I dont know how to install them.
Kids are driving me nuts PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got all the sys. files on screen.
Nothing with atapi.sys
Its a nightmare juggling two laptops and a baby.

Forget about the atapi file for now...see if you can get the setup.exe working using the instructions.

OK heres where I'm at.
I have the two files installed on drive C.
I have the setup file on a floppy disk, there is no readme file in the zip.
Do you want me to reboot or run the setup disk now?
Thanks for helping

On your working PC, run the Setup.exe file and it generates 4 files, one is the readme.txt file. It will explain what to do.

Make sure you have the 3 files on a floppy then boot the troubled laptop up in dos mode....then run the tosh.exe file from the floppy.

Okey dokey done that, now it wants a reboot and I'm still in DOS.
How do I reboot from here?
I'm going to join "Idiots are us" after this!!

Tosh.exe installed successfully.
But same error message.
Error in config.sys line 12
The following file is missing or corrupted: SAMPLE.SYS
BOLLOKS!!

OK try this....

Copy the autoexec.bat and config.sys files to the c: drive.

Copy the oakcdrom.sys file to c:\windows\command

Reboot and see if it's ok.

It now says 'number of drives 1 Oak Technologies'
The computer will boot ok and allow me to select and view files in drive D.
As soon as I reboot with the floppy startup win 95 disk the same old error message is displayed.
Nightmare city!!!!

Tried another boot disk from a packard bell computer.
It cant find the CD drive either.

Maybe the CD-ROM drive is simply knackered!

So you can put a cd in the drive, it shows it in the D: and you can view the files on the cd but you can't do anything with the files!

Are you trying to do a full re-install of Windows???

i recon you need to try a diffeent boot disk and not a boot cd:-

click here and download the bootdisk for win95 you'll need a floppy disk.

just got this of google

No CD rom is working fine reads files etc.
I am trying to do a full install of win 95.
I have a p****e version of xp pro , the computer would not let be install.
I've since found out that a copy of norton was preventing this.
Managed to get round this and about to install xp pro direct from a CD.
I'll let you know how it goes but I'm not optimistic.

The saga continues:
It turns out that the win 95 boot disk and cd is the companion version and will not allow a new install.
I have searched a lot on this and there is a way to install it in DOS but I dont have the skills.
As for the XP cd, it would not install because of a password protected version of Norton which I could not uninstall.
I spoke to a friend who advised me to reformat the drive to erase everything and do a clean install with the XP disk.
I followed his advise and everything with the reformat went great.
Put in the XP cd and guess what. "Cannot run setup in DOS"
Pulled XP driver disks off internet got to disk no.6 and........................... "configuration error installation stopped to prevent damage to your computer"
Two days of this S**T and Bill Gates can go and F**K himself!!!!!!
Thanks to Devilfish and all who spent a wasted day trying to help me.
I'm sure your patience was wearing thin by the last post.
I'm not beaten yet just aquired a full copy of Win 98 though I'm not sure if its a retail or OEM version..........................a\>:mkdir c:\win98 \F**KBILLGATES
Just testing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks again to all
