Hi all
Bought a Compaq Armada 1750 for the kids.
Need to reboot.
Got a 95 boot CD and floppy however I am getting a message stating 'This system may not be setup to use the CD rom. Please contact your PC manufacturer if setup does not start automatically. Press any key to continue...
I have tried changing the boot options and enabled multi boot, changed the settings but no luck.
The CD shows all the files but I dont know how to install them.
Kids are driving me nuts PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In addition:
Device driver not found: 'OEMCD001'
No valid CDROM device drivers selected
Invalid drive specification
Invalid directory
Bad command or file name
A:\>_

As well as:
The following file is missing or corrupted: SAMPLE.SYS
There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 12
Warning this system may not be set up to use the CD ROM.

I dont know if I should get rid of the computer ............................................... or the kids.

Can you post your autoexec.bat and config.sys files here please? You'll get them in c:\.

Can you check in the c:\windows\command directory and see if you have a mscdex.exe file.

Have a look here h**p://www.allbootdisks.com/disk_contents/95.html, it may be worth wiht getting the files and making a new bootdisk.

Not too hot with DOS.
How do I find the autoexe and config.sys files.
I do have a Mscdex.exe file however.
Also when I am in DOS how do I get back to windows without resetting the computer.
Thanks for your patience

Open My Computer and click on the C: drive. Hold down the CTRL button and select the autoexec.bat and the config.sys files. Right click on one of them and add them to to a zip file. Post the zip file here.

I can open the config.sys file in word. Is this right?
It states:
Files 100
Buffers 80
DOS High, UMB
device c:\windows\COMMAND\display.sys con(ega,,1)
Country 044,850, c:\windows\COMMAND\country.sys

Ha, look at that , it worked.
I am a God....................................... "Alright kids I'm working on your problem next."

Ok...unzip and copy the autoexec.bat file to your C: drive.

I need to know the name of the driver for your CD-ROM drive. What make is the cdrom, i.e. Sony, Toshiba, etc.

Have a look in the C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND directory for a .sys file that has 'cdrom' somewhere in the name (i.e. btcdrom.sys). This is the driver file and it needs to be loaded in the config.sys file.

Do you want me to overwrite the existing files.
There is no file in with cdrom in the command file. Anywhere else?
I'm looking now to try and find the CDrom make.
Back soon.
Thanks for your help

Yes overwrite. It might be in it's own directory on the C: drive. Or maybe c:\windows, c:\windows\system32.

I'm in device manager and it states CD-ROM Toshiba XM-1902B
No driver files are required or have been uploaded for this device.

The plot thickens................................

It looks like it doesn't need any additional drivers...windows should detect it and load it on it's own.

Can you tell me where you atapi.sys file is?

Done a search and.................................nothing!
No atapi.sys
Would it be named anything else.
I'm looking but just cant see.

The only file with cdrom in it is Mscdrom.inf
There is a Mscdex.exe or Smartdrv.exe?

Unzip the setup.rar file and you'll get a setup.exe file. Run this and it will copy 4 file to the location that you have ran it from.

Follow the instructions in the readme.txt file and see how you get on.

Got all the sys. files on screen.
Nothing with atapi.sys
Its a nightmare juggling two laptops and a baby.
