OK, so it's not a software topic but where better to ask! I'm fed up with my manky old HP8100 burner and am contemplating something state-of-the-art ( supports overburning, will copy everything in microseconds, and give me a handjob too). Seriously, any pointers? Cost? Where best to get it from? Thanks people!

Mad mate...basically as I see it you have two choices.......Liteon or Plextor. The Liteon 24speed jobbie is the m*tts n*ts at the mo, I fitted one to a m8's m/c the other, you can pick them up most places for about £80. If you want to goto town have a Plextor, but you're talking about £150ish, my SCSI one cost me £180 about six months ago.

Have Fun

Matter of opinion really. I took my liteon 24x back cos it was a pile of shite. Got a Plextor now and happy. Depends which model Plextor you get. Mine is a 16x and cost about £130 but just shop around till you find the cheapest.

Just found a Plextor 24x for you at £119. Prices have come down a bit since I got mine. Try here http://www.ram-direct.com/ thats where I get most of my hardware from. You may wish to have a look at this site also http://computermarketsonline.co.uk

don't pay £150 for the 12x10x32 you can get the 24 speed for that price dude but the plextor's r the best jsut shop around.
i have the 12x10x32 had no problems what so ever

As previously mentioned the plex 24x is available at £119 at the link that I gave. If you are paying £150 for the 12x then it must be a scuzzy.

Sorry, should have said its a scuzzy - and I've done the deal so will now have to put it through its paces! Thanks again for all the pointers - Ferret
